River Oaks is a predominantly residential area in Houston's western reaches. Memorial Park to the north, Upper Kirby to the south, Uptown to the west, and Shepherd Drive to the east are all notable places that border the neighborhood. The brothers' Will and Mike Hogg, along with Hugh Potter, created River Oaks. From 1926 until 1947, the River Oaks Country Club Estates included an additional 1,100 acres of land known as River Oaks. River Oaks became Houston's affluent neighborhood due to the founders' meticulous planning, uncompromising deed restrictions, and construction rules.

River Oaks houses range in size from four to five bedrooms, ranging from 3,000 to more than 10,000 square feet. The townhouses and condominiums include two to four bedrooms and two to three full baths, with living areas ranging from 1,000 to more than 2,500 square feet.
