Heat Emergency Alert Extended, Montgomery County, MD
Montgomery County has extended the Heat Emergency Alert until 8 p.m. on Friday 8/13. Residents should prepare for heat index values to possibly approach 105 degrees during the afternoon hours. These dangerously hot temperatures and heat index values could cause heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Try to stay in an air-conditioned location. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outdoors. Stay hydrated, even if you do not feel thirsty. When possible, take frequent breaks in a cool, shaded area.
County facilities, including libraries, swimming pools, recreation, and senior centers, as well as regional service centers are places to cool off during normal operating hours. Masks are required inside county facilities and will be available, if needed.
The Executive Director of the Office of Animal Services will enforce Executive Regulations 17-17, Anti Cruelty Conditions for Dogs and Other Pets during this heat emergency. Pet owners must not leave pets unattended in vehicles or outdoors.
