Hello All!
I just wanted to let you know, that ToastMasters installed a new board yesterday, and I am now the VP of Public Relations. So, since I am happy to be in this position, let me tell you why YOU should consider
checking into a Toastmasters in your area.
1) Toastmasters is made up of a group of people, both experienced, and very Inexperienced in public speaking
2) In a very supportive atmosphere, it helps you to learn the art of Effective communication
3) This will help you in your job no matter what you do. Sales, Engineering, office work, Marketing, academics, research, medical, transportation, Real Esate.
4)By teaching you Effective communication, you are able to help people see your poins more clearly, and that will help you be more effective in influencing people, which in turn will help you get noticed more, and promotions will follow.
5)Toastmasters also helps you think on your feet, and increases your vocabulary.
6)In a Gentle Positive way, toastmasters shows you your strenghts and weaknesses- and believe me, you will have plenty of people that start in Toastmasters that cringe at the thought of speaking. Some people have not yet even mastered the English language. It is ok, come as you are, and you will be supported at whatever level you find yourself. We all have to start, and this group really is there to Help and help and help. So relax and enjoy.
7) Toastmasters help you learn basic skills, and advances with you at your pace. Then for those who have mastered the Basics, Toastmasters has more and more advanced skills. So your club can have a wonderful mix of novice, scared, non talker, to elegant professional level speakers. The mix is part of the beauty of Toastmasters.
8)You will have a mentor help you if you need it, and there are manuals to help you learn some good techniques.
9) They have people that will help you keep track of time in your talks as well as get over crutch words, that you constantly use like, um, ah, like, etc
10) Toastmasters is a great network of people, and the people are supportive, informative and fun!
