Capital Area Solar Co-op Open Through Aug. 30, 2022

The Capital Area Solar Co-op is currently in its second round of a campaign to get Washington area homeowners to consider powering their homes with the power of the sun. This run of the campaign will go through Aug. 30 and will include a special “Wine and Shine Happy Hour” and information session at Black Ankle Vineyards in Mount Airy.

In Round 2, Solar United Neighbors (SUN) continues to work with more than a dozen local jurisdictions and organizations around the Capital Area in encouraging residents to put solar panels on their homes.

By joining the #CapitalAreaSolarCoop, residents will join neighbors in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. in the quest to lower energy costs, become energy independent and participate in the renewable revolution.

Round 2 of the campaign, which launched on April 1, has had virtual information sessions and in-person events to help answer solar-related questions. The special event at Black Ankle Farms with begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12. More information is available here. There is no charge to attend.

In addition, there will be an online information session for Maryland homeowners starting at noon on Thursday, Aug. 18. More information about the event can be found at https://www.solarunitedneighbors.org/event/maryland-co-op-info-session5/.

A solar co-op is a group of property owners who use their combined buying power to save money going solar. Thousands of people nationwide have been helped in transforming to solar energy for their homes. Solar co-ops are member driven and free to join.

Hi Roy... not something I've heard of here in the Charlotte area. Having looked into solar panels preliminarily the conclusion I've come to is that they will take a long time to pay off... probably more time than I have.

My neighbor across the street just installed solar to power their home and swimming pool.  I'm considering doing something similar.

Hi Roy,

Coming from a state that has a lot of sunshine, with many areas having close to 3000 days of it, we have a lot of solar panels.  Residents need to do their homework. I have seen a lot of issues when trying to sell your home.
