"Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It's about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen. ― Brene Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection.

The subject of "authenticity" is not talked about much. Many new agents enter the real estate business thinking they must conform to what they believe their brokerages want.

They believe they must fit into the "typical" agent, whatever that is, to be successful.

Agents must measure up; if not, they will likely become uncomfortable and feel unfulfilled. And eventually, they fold.

Of course, being authentic is easier said than done. It may make you feel vulnerable and even uncomfortable. But in the long term, the positives outweigh the challenges.

Here's what being an authentic real estate pro looks like.

You Attract Genuine People

You may think there is no such thing as wrong clients, but as soon as you stumble upon them – you will know there is.

By being an authentic leader, you attract clients, partners, and team members who share similar values to you. When you are open-minded with others, they will extend the same courtesy to you. The trust between you and your clients will increase too.

You Stand Out In The Crowd

The competition in today's business market is enormous. Every brand's marketing and social media strategy is filled with all the same buzzwords. Getting through the noise can be tricky.

How can you stand out in the endless stream of content?

The answer is plain and straightforward, being authentic. You don't have to follow the rules others have set before you to "fit" in. Do what feels suitable to your brand and business. Nobody expects polished perfection.

Dare to be raw, and people will notice you!

You Learn More About Your Clients

Although you are vulnerable, you attract the same from your clients by opening up. When you live your life on the fringes, you miss out on many fantastic opportunities to know others on a deeper level.

Think about clients who adore your "authenticity" and how you genuinely enjoy doing business with them. You felt grateful for having these clients contribute to your life, and remember that you, too, have contributed to theirs.

You Have A Peace Of Mind

Pretending is no fun. Building a persona may seem like the safest pathway toward success, but it will mentally and physically drain you in the long run. Even the most straightforward tasks become daunting when you aren't true to yourself.

At first, showing your authenticity may be scary, especially if you've put up a show for the past few years. But once time passes, it will feel natural and right, and the initial discomfort certainly is worth it.

Finally, the ultimate freedom: you decide who you are, and no one can change that. You have more energy because you're not tying yourself in knots to be the person someone else wants. You have deep-down peace of mind because you are honest at the most basic level.

It gives you courage when you act from the place of your deepest self. Approach life with quiet confidence. Don't let opportunities that resonate with you fly by. Seize them.

Be raw! Be vulnerable! You will see just how liberating it is.

"Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don't wish it were easier; wish you were better." ― Jim Rohn.
