It was a perfect early December early evening on 4 December 2022 when two (2) annual events took place in our Town of Georgetown, Massachusetts. The first is the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Drive and Santa Tour hosted by the Georgetown, MA Fire Department.
Here's a little background. In the mid-1990s the Department brought back the tradition where Santa Claus, drives around town spreading cheer and joy while seated on one of the firetrucks. In 2000 they added the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. During these 22 years over 70,000 new unwrapped toys have been donated by the citizens of Georgetown. Over 3,800 toys were donated this year.
This year the Town Holiday Committee coordinated the annual Christmas Tree and Star of David lighting so Santa could stop by that event.
The event takes many hands.
The Georgetown Municipal Electric Light Department works with the committee and ensures the trees at Harry Murch Veterans Park have lights and electricity. The Highway Department locates and transports a Christmas tree and sets it up.
Local vendors donated Pizzas, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, and cookies which were coordinated by members of the Georgetown Kiwanis Club. Christmas music filled the Park until the program began.
The High School Student Choir performed 3 songs while the crowd of over 300 scrunched together and sang along.
Then came the time for the festivities, which I'll show in pictures. We started with a few words on Christmas and a prayer from Rev. Dr. William Boylan
With much anticipation, our Chief of Police flips the switch
