Out With the Old, and In with the New!

Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty ~ 512.750.6899

It’s a new year and many have received new electronics for Christmas! Did you get a new laptop, smartphone, iPad or smart appliance? Have you gone through that drawer, we all have one, to sort through your miscellaneous cables and other accessories?

Now is the time to make an appointment at the Austin Resource Recovery’s Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center to recycle and/or dispose of your electronics. You can schedule an appointment to keep your old items from piling up in your home at: https://www.austintexas.gov/dropoffschedule

Many of your favorite tech items contain lithium-ion batteries which should not be thrown out in our garbage. Let’s keep sanitation workers safe and our land fill free of these items. Help celebrate a happy and safe new year!

Hi George Souto ,

It is important to get rid of them. They get lost in the shuffle and can be hidden for years! LOL!!

Hi Dorie- We keep charging cords around because someone is always in need of one when they come over. It's important to dispose of electronic devices correctly and if you have a laptop or device with important information on it, remember that that info stays on the drive unless you take special care to get rid of it. We usually smash our harddrives.

Good morning, Dorie... my Ballantyne area has at least two events a year where we can donate old electronics and accessories to Goodwill. It's a great way to keep that stuff from piling up at home.

This is great information for people in your area. I'm going to be purchasing a few new items at some point and will have to find a place similar to Austin's Recycle and Reuse  Drop Off Center.

Have a great day!

I definitely have too many cords to even know what to do with and I am always afraid to throw them out even though I don't know what any of them go to, haha.

The dreaded junk drawer!! This is a good reminder to stop putting off going through it and starting tossing things (correctly of course)

Hi Kathy Streib ,

I like you have a drawer with old charging chords. Every time you move up to a newer phone invariably it requires needed new chords! Someone over may need to charge so I have many to choose from! Ha. Ha.

Its always better to get rid of electronics that are out of date and replaced with new ones, Nina Hollander, Broker . You most likely will never use the old ones and why have them laying around gathering dust!

Hi Brian England ,

I had a drawer in my office in one of my file cabinets with tons of stuff from Gene. I had our computer come over to show me what to keep and get rid of. Most everything was to go! Glad that job is behind me.

Great PSA to know when your community has a recycle drop off. Our junk room is getting pretty full so I'll be glad when one is scheduled here locally.
