The Final All-Star

By

The All-Star teams are in and while you, the voting fan, failed to get White Sox left fielder, Carlos Quentin, into the game- the players voted him in to make up for it. NOW you have a REAL chance to make a difference...

As they have for the last several years, Major League Baseball is allowing the fans to vote in the final all-star in each league. I generally do not care about National League baseball....but I do like both former White Sox players Aaron Rowand and Carlos Lee.

The real reason for the post is to a) urge you to get your favorite player voted in...and b)to super-urge you to get Jermaine Dye of the White Sox in....look at his numbers versus the 4 other gents vying for a roster spot and it's a no brainer....in fact, he's been more productive than a number of guys already on the team!

Come on, do the right thing...for the integrity of the sport we love!!!

Jim, every since MLB pulled the bone head move to make the All-Star game have "meaning", I have basically gotten to the point where it means little to me to watch it. I think that as long as players are chosen by the fans, and not truly on the merit of performance, then the game should have no significant meaning. Just my 2 cents.

I am certainly in agreement with you that Jermaine Dye deserves to be there but I am very surprised that Mike Lowell was left off the ballot for the final spot.  he is hitting over 300 and has over 50 RBI's while missing a month of the season due to injury.  Yes I understand that the Red Sox already have seven players going but seriously.

Danny, I think it depends on who the fan is. A lot of fans out there really know their stuff. On the other hand there are the fans who don't know anything. Either way I think it's still fun to watch.

Andy, fun to watch yes. Fun that it decides who has home field advantage for the world series, no.

Come on Frank, D-Lee isn't even in the AL or on this final vote ballot. I'm a fan of C.Lee and don't mind support being thrown the way of THAT former Sox player wither....but you can still vote for an AL player too. Dye was robbed by not being selected on the team originally....his numbers are right in line with Sizemore, Manny and JD Drew (and has a higher BA than all three). And even worse is he's only in 2nd on this list to Evan Longoria....now I think Longoria is a great young player and more deserving than Joe Crede (my fave) THIS year...but Joe's finally getting to go for a few years he was ripped off- Longoria will get his day- but his production doesn't compare to Dye's.

Danny- good post. While I agree that making an exhibition game count as what determines home field advantage is stupid...what would you have? I like the idea of the league that wins interleague play head-to-heads....where the AL was I want to say 42 games better than the NL this season. I don't like straight up records because the Cubs are going to mow through AAAA ball and SHOULD be able to win more games that say Tampa...a team that has to play the Yankees, BoSox, White Sox, Angels, etc.
