I Think I Discovered Something New About Localism...

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.

I was scrolling through checking out the New York Home Page and realized people were posting Google Maps from the phone book to show where a grouping of items (like hotels and schools) were.  Fascinated, I started checking out their blogs and noticed that everyone's blogs seem to hold ten items in a list on the left so the more you write the more they drop off. I went back and noticed I only had ten articles as well. My listing of recents posts were gone as well.

Was I the only person under the impression that what we post to Localism would stay on our Localism blog pages? This does not appear to be the case...

C - if you scroll to the bottom there is a next button, it is not very prominent and just above your latest comments. I think it should be a little more obvious. There are a few other kinks on localism. I think people should be able to do a search for agents and it should go to the agent page of active rain for the town or county (or state). Right now it is not an intuitive sight. What does "neighbors" mean to the casual looker? Also, I have to find out why my last couple of posts for Athens have not been showing up on the localism page?

Don, you are very welcome. I'm still struggling to figure Localism out as well.

Jeannette, any light you can shed would be very helpful. I have an entire series set up and would like to know if there will be an unlimited or restricted number of posts for Localism.

Mike, thank you for the tip. Very much appreciated. Took a while to find last night...

I've never quite learned all there is to know about localism.  But you'll figure it out in order to post the gorgeous photos.

C...

The blogs are still there and indexed by Google. just not on the list. Most people will find the post via search anyway so it's all good! Google likes new and breaking items, so there is added SEO by having the crawlers reindex regualrly ...it's a benefit and not a crutch!

Good question, Carolyn. Also, I would like to know if you go back and edit a post, does it get edited in Localism as well?

Shirley - I have asked that same question. In the beta version I found that it was hit and miss. Some of my edits showed up, some of them didn't. I am finding the same thing on the current localism. Some of my edits show up, some don't.

Hey Barbara, I'm still playing with Localism.

I can't log into it, which is a bit confusing. Do we have to make new Localism accounts or is it just not connected for us to log in yet? I had assumed that the log in would be linked to our AR accounts, or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm not sure yet. I have to go back and read a lot of stuff.

Hey Richard, that is very good to know. I've also discovered that the posts dropping of the State home page are also still carried on the County home pages. I was playing around in Queens County and was surprised to find my stuff posted there. I shouldn't have been surprised, because I live and write about it, but I was. Cool.

Big Mike and Shirley, there is a tiny lag but the edits do eventually catch up. I did an edit this morning and it showed up about two minutes later. I had to hit the refresh button a few times before the changes popped into view.

I guess I am in a little bit of a panic because I'm staring to get some outside emails and phone calls from people and I want to keep up with everything and improve the quality of my content. I like how this is exposing our CC brand. I was recognized in the street the other day, which I still find kinda amazing. They like my photographs. Didn't really remember what I wrote, but did remember the photographs. I can live with that!

Hi Leslie, I hope to sort it all out at some point. I've been a little sleep deprived lately an unable to concentrate. (LOL)

C', I'm glad to read that I'm not the only person that thinks your pictures have "sticking" power.  :)  The various comments and concerns on this posting have actually been pretty informative.  I can personally emphasize with many of them.  I guess we just have to keep an open mind as we try to figure out the Localism while they are working the kinks out.

Sondra, you are so right. Localism seems like it is going to be huge once it is in its stride. ;-)

There have been some people who mentioned that their posts won't erase off of localism even after they uncheck the localism boxes, and some that aren't showing up at all.  What is apparent however, is, on August 20th, Rich announced, posts to localism would no longer need approval to be added to Localism. In other words, if your posts didn't show up because it wasn't approved earlier, then now it shouldn't matter. Furthermore i think this also relates to page size, layout issues.  Just try posting again and it should be there this time, immediately.

Good luck. If you have any more questions ask Rich Jacobsen or Brad Andersohn to name a few.

Thank you, Castellum. They have repaired Localism to run Mixpo video, so I'm sure they will fix the other issues in due time. :-)
