If you live in Shepherdsville and would like to recycle, there are a couple of different ways to go about it.
- The easist and most convenient is to call Eco-Tech (935-1130) and have them pick it up at the curb. They charge $5.00 / month for this service.
- Alternatively, you can take everything to the 'recycling center' on South Preston beside the stockyards. There is no cost and you do not have to separate anything.
With a little more effort, you can give your aluminum cans to a worthy cause such as the youth program at Divine Savior Lutheran Church. We keep 2 recycled-plastic bins in our garage. Aluminum cans go in one and plastic/metal/glass containers go in the other. Once every couple of weeks, we drop the cans off at the church and take everything else to the recycling center.
If you are not recycling, check out these stats from the National Recycling Coalition.
- We throw away enough aluminum to rebuild our entire commercial fleet of airplanes every 3 months.
- Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to power a TV for 3 hours and the average person goes through 25,000 cans in their lifetime.
- Glass can be recycled an infinite number of times.
- Recycling creates 6 times as many jobs as tossing something in a landfill.
This is just a snippet of the benefits that recycling provides. You can check out their Top 10 Reasons to Recycle to learn more.
