Social Networking and Myspace

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Real Estate RS151669

I have been a member of myspace for 2 years.  I admit I have not gotten into using the account. Lets face it, there is only so much time in a day.  But I decided today to check it out and start trying to add some new friends.

So I did so searching, and the majority of people who were in the real estate industry that I came across had unprofessional pages.  Am I looking at this wrong?  I want my page to have a professional look.

I would really like to connect with other professionals, who maintain their page for networking.

Is anyone using myspace for networking and keeping a professional look?

Please give me your feedback and thoughts.

I don't think professionals are using it for networking.  I use to go on to check up on my two sons.  Then my soon to be ex-sister-in law was on there posting all kinds of crazy things.  It is not really anything I would want to be associated with.

Social sites are a great way to eliminate yourself from opportunities. I have seen people not get a job as a result of their MySpace page. Stay away is my advice.

I use social sites to keep in touch with family and friends.

Thanks for sharing

Thats whyI prefer linkedin. The people who use it are professionals and maintain that kind of appearance where with myspace and facebook you are stuck making friends with people who dont look professional or worry about conveying that impression. I dont like worrying who is connecting to me.

Carol,  I think MySpace is suppose to reflect your personality.  I think mine is somewhat professional but I have a lot of family and personal stuff on it.  Take a look at MySpace and let me know what you think.  I do not promote myself on MySpace other than stating what I do.  95% of my friends are people I truly know and have a relationship with.  I use the site to stay in touch and in the process keep people aware of my prfession.

Linkedin and Facebook allow you to be more professional. A top producing agent out of the L.A. market does use MySpace successfully for his business. In my conversation with him he uses all social networks but he calls Myspace the bar, Facebook the back yard, and Linkedin the office.
