So its not bad enough we are faced with another storm

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Ft Myers & The Islands

But now we are faced with a huge gas increase.  At 4Pm today our little town was out of gas in our 3 stations. News was get it by 5Pm or pay close to $6.  So off we went. I was able to get there just in time to fill my tank up at $3.95 a gallon.  How about you? were you able to get still get gas.

With our country already struggling to buy the gas at the prices we have, how do they think we can continue and what I want to know...WHY??? Did  I miss something, did the storm already hit and wipe out all the gas stored?  So there isn't any tankers running right now, did Houston sink.?

We need to fight back, but I don't know the answer anyone else have have a clue?

Here in Michigan, I saw some lines. It was 3.88 this a.m. and now up to 3.95. I however had a coupon to save 10 cents per gallon because I bought so many groceries last week. I had half a tank, but I now have a full tank and paid only 3.78 per gallon. Hate to see how high this will go.

Hard to believe that a few years ago it was 1.78! and that was high!!!

Are going to have to charge more for our mileage? No more showing 90 houses to clients right?

It is a very difficult situation. In time it will get better. I experienced several major storms here in South Florida; Hurricane David, Wilma and a few others... We too, had gas lines for hours on end. No power for days and even weeks... It does get better.

AJ- I swear if I wasn't a somewhat law abiding (I really don't want to go to jail or have my license permanently taken away) individual I would do what the oil companies are doing to so many of us... rip them off, pull up to their little golden gas pumps fill up my 25 gallon truck tank, and all the 5 gallon cans I can fit in the bed and drive off with my finger out the window lol...

But I am like I said a somewhat law abiding individual (I speed alot :-\ other than that I''m good) so I just don't drive my big truck unless I absolutely have to. I went from spending $400+ a week (yes $400 a week and that was when it was at 2.95/g not 3.95+) on gasoline in my truck and equipment to spending $800- a month with current prices by simply shortening distances I will drive (which while it costs me money, it doesn't cost as much.... big projects I travel little stuff is a closer range now) and not driving my truck at all when I'm not working. 10mpg really adds up lol I feel bad for you, they tried doing something similar to that up here a few years back, our governor did the only good thing shes ever done and made them bring it back down or get fined/ shut down for price gouging. Goodluck I hope you filled up before it goes way up.... if it goes up don't get it they will say ooooh they are willing to pay this much we can raise it some more.

Give the oil companies any reason to raise the prices and they will exploit it. Here in Florida no storms, decrease in usage and a Orlando service station just posted a $5.45 a gallon price. Don't we just love oilmen in office?

I was showing property today- at noon gas was $3.47 per gallon, by 5pm $3.99 and many stations were out of 87/89 so it was over $4.00 a gallon. If this storm does the damage they're predicting, Sheppard Smith reported the price doubling next week. I certainly hope the reserves are released instead. God Bless you folks in the path of this storm.

We keep paying them their ridiculous amounts.  We need to curb our consumption.  It is time to stop complaining and wanting the government to do something about it (they are not going to).  It Is time for us to help ourselves a little bit.  Imagine the dent we would put in the oil companies profits, if we just took the keys off of our teenagers, and just made them ride the bus to school.  We need to hit THEM where it hurts, in their wallets.

No, the refineries in the Gulf Coast are down for the past storm and have had to shut down in Louisiana for lack of power last week. The 3-4 day supply is used up that was a normal buffer.

It is not the oilmen. Its supply and demand in the short term. Its the spot price of the market and not the long term contracts.  Next week it will go back to a more normal price if the damages are not great.

If you have no refineries in your back yard you should have no room to talk. It always OK to stick these refineries in our backyard because your politicians are against them. Then you do not want to spend money to protect them. Have your leaders pushed for a nuclear facility near you?

Louisiana sends the Federal Govt 20-25 billion dollars per year from this oil business. We get back about 12-15 billion.  Its very easy to bash things you know little about.

A much bigger issue is the lending institutions and investment banks that will cost the taxpayers better than 50-100 billion. Most of this took place in NY right under the nose of our smartest Congressman and Senators.

Walmart and Exxon get bashed because they make money. I would rather have them than Indy Mac, Freddie mac, Fannie Mae, and Lehman as they do not take money from my kids future.

You could shut down NASCAR as it wastes gas. That would have zero effect in my backyard. Of course this is silly but it is a point.

If you flooded and lost a home and all your belongings the cost of gas is not a big deal.  We depended upon the government to protect us with the levees they promised. They could not get funded as many other projects were deemed more important. 1500 people later it is getting funded. Many things funded were earmarks that were not that important.

Just had to vent reading the gas price issue. 20,000 of my neighbors do not have power. Many are not home so lets put things in perspective. Many this is a wakeup call. Less about lipstick and more about self sufficiency.

More will be shut down with inventories being depleted in Louisiana and Texas. This will cause a temp shortage with many not at full capacity. After Katrina the East Coast was less than 12 hours before the supply was cut off. Much of the refined gas is sent via pipelines up North.

There is enough crude at this time.

You are correct with that. I happened to have liked my last couple of Congressmen. One is now Govenor and seems to be doing a great job with the latest diasters. The one next to me is the one we need to get rid of. 21 count indictment for stealing but is still in office. Its not me?

Well I think it is a load of crap,  I am here in Corpus Christi; a place where there are a ton of refineries (we haven't had a bad storm in years) and the prices are still going up here.  It is outrageous!  I just do not buy the stories that are floating around the media.  I got gas at $3.47 the other day but now it is up to $4.29 in some places.

We could make a lot of noise, get mad and lose valuable time worrying about it. I love this forum that allows us to vent -- I feel better by just reading some of these posts. It is time though, to face the reality and adjust the way that we do business. It is what it is.
