What does someone have to write about to get a star?

By

I have been on this site for a short time and I try to read and post good things . I see that there are some bad topics that have little to with with anything. I guess it gets my goat when I see something "wrong" about the system. Am I the only one?

I truly believe that this is a great site and what to use it to the fullest. I started a group by the name of DETROIT, and found out that the person that made the site, controls the "stars". so if I guess that if I like the person I can give them a star? Can someone please help me out and tell me what they know about "stars"

Matt the MARINE says sound off!, And tell me what you think!!

Matthew, if you get your post featured then you get a gold star and extra points.  I think people have to rate your post and you have to get a lot of comments to get a FEATURED Post.  Good luck.

Look underneath the post to see who posted it and you will see numbers 1 to 5.  Five is great and one is not so good.

Matt-

(Once one always one.)  Rating a post is located just under the name of the poster at the bottom of the post area.  1-5 and of course you can also comment.  When you're the leader of the group, you can feature however you seem fit.  Everyone can have a star if you wish.  (Hey wish upon a star-ok bad humor)

There's many posts about some of the concerns you have regarding who gets featured.  Most featured posts are posted either because they are getting a high rating, have a controversial topic, a topic that is current or just plain great information.  It does appear sometimes that certain people seem to get featured over and over.  Most do not.  I have been on this site for six months and have a total of 4 featured posts.  I believe I have several of blogging friends here and yet I do not get featured each time I post.  That's ok.  I still feel my first post I ever posted was a great one, yet I did not receive one comment.

So where in Detroit?  I grew up there.  Six mile and Gratiot to be exact.  Welcome to Active Rain.  It is a wonderful place with lots of info and great people too.

If you started your own group, you're in control of the stars in your group.  But, others have to know about your group to join the group to post to the group in order for you to put stars.

The AR guys don't really have set criteria for featured posts.  I've been here since the beginning, blog a lot, and I've only had like 11 or 12 featured posts.

Matt, most of the blogs that got featured were my posts about how AR has helped my business.  How I got an appt from someone finding me on here and how it turned out.  AR likes to self promote, which is good.  I just can't figure out how to get my other, decent blogs, features... I'm not on their radar like some of the regulars.

Hi Matthew,

My experience has been posts that get stars are seen as valuable to that group and is recommended reading. If the subject is about staging, the post is useful or enlightening or deemed important by the moderator to that group. The star keeps that post at the top for hours to days...sometimes it can have humor or address a touchy subject. Read the star posts, announce your group, and feature the stars in your group. Use the questions and answers link at the top of the page for instructions. Hope this helps.
