A recent encounter with a client helped to drive home the fact that much has changed since the 70’s.

This young man has a good education from a top-notch school and a good job with a growing company. Each home that we looked at was examined for site orientation, but that was all! It turns out that his father had built a “passive solar” home many years ago and so, now, southern exposure was important to him.

He decided which of the many homes he looked at would be HIS first home, and at the walk-through we had a few minutes to discuss some environmental issues. He was eager to learn about the advances in technology that have affected how we do solar these days.

I’m encouraged! Next we are going to start to look for a piece of land for his solar home.

It pays to know a where we are in the environmental timeline. This is not your father’s eco-friendly house. We all should have a little knowledge about what can be done to work with nature instead of against it in the 21st centuary.

John,

Good points. Technology has advanced quite a bit since the early passive solar homes.

John,

That is so true, and more and more pospect are now interested in the alternative way to heat the home, type of buiding material etc. so as agent we need to get educated about this issue.

Gary and Jennifer,

Thanks for your comments.

I believe the day is coming when stricter environmental and energy requirements will be mandated by local, state, and federal governments. we need to make the time to learn all that we can so we can be ahead of the curve.

Thanks for this information. It is helpful to learn about how technology is moving forward...and of course you know I love stories that tell us about "bright" futures ;-)
