WishesWhen you wish upon a star, your dreams can come true. Unless it's really a meteorite hurtling to the earth which will destroy all life. Then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for. Unless it's death by meteor.

Seriously, you see this with buyers of homes all the time. They talk about wishes. The focus needs to be more about dreams.

Wishes are very light and fluffy. They are a good beginning point, but the real problem with wishes is they lack vision. Start with a wish but make it into a dream.

I Have A Dream

You never heard that famous quotation from Martin Luther King Jr. come up as

                 " I Have a Wish! "

Dreaming shows action. It shows that there is some plan behind the words. Wishing is still probably not even on paper. It is very passive. It is much easier to put wishes on the shelf. Where do you think the term wishy washy comes from? Wishes can seem impractical, hopeless, and maybe even impossible. When we launched the goal of putting a man on the moon before this decade was out, THAT was a dream, not a wish.

Stop wishing and start DREAMING all those ideas you have into living breathing reality. Sure there may be fear at first.

Once you take the first steps in the direction of your dream the courage will follow. But don't wish,

          DREAM!!!

Gary,

Nice explanation and distinction...we don't use our imaginations enough...wishing is the car running, dreaming is putting it into gear!!! Thanks,   Fran

Gary:  The power of a dream is awesome.  It motivates, and helps people visualize exactly where they are headed.

Funny:  "I have a wish!"  That really shows the difference in wishing and dreaming.  When we lose our dream, we lose our motivation.

Gary - that is so true.  We have stopped using words like wish and try at my house.  We choose instead.  Gives us more of a feeling of power.

Hi Gary - Know what's even better than a dream?  A BURNING DESIRE!  I read that a long time ago by someone you might know - Napoleon Hill.  I never did get through the entire book or audio cassettes (remember them) but I will never forget the power of a burning desire.

A word for Pat - You're funny, thanks.  Oh....just a few more words.  I do go back to see if my comment was answered.  When it hasn't been I feel I just had a one-way conversation and probably won't visit again anytime soon.

Gary, that is why there is a "wishy-washy" but no "dreamy-dramy" :)

Nancy: Crank up those dreams, dust them off. Go for it.

Sandy: Big dreams are the best.

Fran: That's why everyone says get in gear!!

Chris Ann: There is power in dreams.

Shirley: Having just a wish is not inspirational.

Chris: Very good getting rid of wish and try.

Hi Pat: Your comments are ALWAYS well thought out and not rambling to me. You're stalking my blog timing now, huh?? LOL. I just write them when a space in time opens up. There is no rhyme or reason for me. I've got more in my head then I have time to write if you can believe that. You are doing VERY WELL with your writing of blogs. I come back and read your comment back to me on YOUR blog MOST of the time when I visit your next NEW blog. It does take discipline to do that. What's tough is if you ask a meaningful question on your blog back to me and I miss it. If it is ever really important to you email or call me directly. I try to do what you say MOST of the time. With all of this it is about time and we can't catch everything.

Gail: I try to answer comments too, until I run out of time. The price of being too popular LOL. I never intentionally do that. I get overwhelmed like yourself with work, play, and life outside Active Rain. I love that burning desire thought.

Charles: Right you are.

Hi Gary! Awesome post and so true. I hear people wish they had more business or wish they had more time with their family. Personally I don't wish. I'm so beyond that and make things come true. As always, your post is an inspiration!

Gary - The way to set out to accomplish a goal is to realize how much you want it to happen and stay determined.

Ken: I hope you mean by length that it is not too long. It's funny too long even bores ME!! LOL.

Hey LaNita: Right. Get on with it, and stop wishing.

Hello Carol: So true, kind of goes with what Gail was saying about burning desire. If you want it bad enough it will happen.

Gary - dreaming is what keeps us focused and going forward. I continue to dream (not wishing as you point out) of the things that are important in my life. Another great post Gary!

Gary, I have the words D R E A M as a large sign right in my living room.   This blog strikes a chord with me.  When you can envision you dream down to the most minute details, which I always do with MY Dreams, then you are on the way to achieving them.

Every major accomplishment I've ever had started with a vivid picture of it in my mind.  And why not?  It makes me feel good to dream about it.  Having it in my imagination stirs up the same intense feelings as actually having it.  The rest is just details on the way to getting there.

Thank you for not only a good blog, but also so visually pleasing!
