Twitter

I read in Wired magazine the other day that Blogging is now old school.  It seems that some of the largest and most respected blogs in the tech sphere are shutting themselves down to explore themselves in Twitter-land.

What are your thoughts on this trend?  Do you use Twitter?  How do you see it and/or  blogging working into your marketing plan in 2009?

About Twitter

Twitter is a unique approach to communication and networking based on the simple concept of status. What are you doing? What are your friends doing-right now? With Twitter, you may answer this question over SMS, IM, or the Web and the responses are shared between contacts.

I'm a daily user of Twitter.  I can't imagine Twitter making blogging obsolete.  I see it more as a Social Media platform than anything else.  I love the connections I'm making and the conversations that are had there.

In the beginning, I was excited about the idea of my blog automatically posting on Twitter.  I'm no longer doing that very often.  I try to go and put a tweet using a www.tinyurl.com and mention a post with a more personal introduction.  Auto tweeting appears as a little too 'in-your-face' advertising.  The key is to be involved and interacting and not just spamming your followers.  Do that, and you won't be followed for long.

That being said, it does drive traffic to my blog and I'm definitely connecting with people I would not have know otherwise.
