Allen,

I'm sorry you feel this way. I'm not being glib, but can you share with me and any other believers who may read this as to what are the rights you feel were taken away from you by this vote? I don't see any rights violation here. I am open to being enlightened. I see God's order barely being maintained and am a bit concerned at how close this vote was. I believe you already have the same rights as everyone else does... nobody may descriminate against you because of who you are or how you live in our great country. The Constitution and all Bill of Rights are being maintained not prevented. You are not asked to use different bathrooms in public, nor to drink from a different water fountain, nor are you prevented from sitting at a lunch counter or sharing a bus with heterosexuals. So I am very interested in learning what rights are being prevented here. I've heard one argument about not being able to file joint tax returns... I admire the fact that they would want to pay the higher tax rate we married people pay but I don't understand why.

I came across you via Fran's blog. I guess you could call me a "Bible thumper" but I don't refer to it that way because I don't thump people with it. It is my guide and refuge and I follow the guidelines it sets for me. I won't force it on anyone else. God is a gentleman who won't force His will on anyone.

Respectfully,

Bob

ABR, e-PRO,

Bob,

we are NOT protected equally in the US. I still can get legally fired in this country for Being Gay n other reason other than just being gay. is that equal???? I can be refused admitance into the ccu unit ER doctors visits etc for my partner of 20 years because I am NOT considered Equal as a family member or spouse and this is even with your civil unions. When My partner passes away I have NO Legal rights to his property ], belongings etc because I am not an equal as you put it in this country. the people who crying out for the protection of Marriage why don't you fight to make Divorce and Adultery Illegal? these seem to be the two main reasons for the end of marriages in this country not me wanting to get married to my partner of 20 ears.

How many of "YOUR" church clergy or parishiners abused alchol, drugs, abused thier spouses sexually abused children or used prositutes and I do recall the majority of them have been str8?? hmmmm I understand your fears but your fear shouldnt be because a loving gay couple wants to be married fear the rate of Divorce, the High Rate of unwanted CHild pregancy etc...

no where in this country am I treated equally as you are, as long as thier are laws in place and people who believe the attacking and killing GLBT people are acceptable and legal as long as it is done in the name of the church its ok. just like women being mans property slavery the inquestion retc was ok since it was done in the name of the church seems logical to mee

Allen,

I wasn't aware that it was legal to fire someone for being gay. I have a hard time believing that one in today's society of equality. If this is the case, yes I agree something should be done about it. I obviously can't agree with something that goes against God's wishes or will, but I grant you, something needs to change if what you tell me is true.

I'm not sure what your point is about church clergy... except it reminds me of why so many in the world hate believers so much. There are many self righteous ones who believe they are holier than thou. On behalf of those wrong thinkers, let me apologize. I have seen that the world doesn't hold it against us that we sin, I think it's when we act as if we don't that people have a problem with us. That's what Grace is all about. Does it give one a free card to go and hurt or sin against people? No. Once you experience the love of the perfect God who created us all, that's when you stop wanting to do things against His will. There are many, even in the pulpit who don't "know" God... which is very sad. For example: I read all the books I can about Barack Obama. I know everything there is to know about him. But do I really know him? No, to know or yada Obama, the Hebrew word for to know, no, I really don't know him, I just know about him.

And lastly, I don't have any fears except that too many people will die in this world with nothing to show for their time here. I do lament the high divorce rate and high rate of unwanted children. I also personally know a few people who are very damaged because one parent walked away from a marriage because they discovered they were gay after having children. I do not give any reasons for this or cast any blame, other than our society has turned from what we were formed by and for. God. If you know anything about the separation of church and state... you'd know it doesn't take "religion" (oooh I hate that term) out of government. At the particular time that it was written, there were a few different denominations fighting for control of the country. To make sure that one church doctrine would not or ever be the one and only governing religion... like the Church of England. Tom Jefferson came up with the compromise to keep it separate.

What would help is if we could all stop with generalizations of the opposing side and take the time to get to know exactly what it is each of us wants. Without the detriment of media spinning it and churning it up. I thank you for your input. I learned a few things today.  And also, nobody I know or associate with in my church would ever condone hurting people in the name of God. Women are not property and never have been under God. They are man's helpmate. Man is the one who turns it around because of their pride. The world has done a wonderful job of doing bad things in the name of God. All are detestable in His eyes. They are not examples to be followed. Jesus set the main example to be followed, he was not interested in His rights, only to honor His Father.

And by the way, I've done more than my share of bad things like drugs and alcohol and abusing my wife and the trust she put in me, but I'm much different now. I've also been sexually abused myself, more than once by a priest. So just so you can see that if anyone wanted to hold a grudge against the "church", I'd have a pretty good reason myself. But it's not God, it was the other one who was behind all that.

Thanks again for some enlightenment. Be blessed, and if you were ever to come to my house, you would be treated equally and welcome.

Bob

Thanks, Alan, to you and everyone who is continuing to call attention to this issue of inequality. Though my partner and I have been together seven years, our relationship is still not considered equal by some.
