Today I'm grateful that it's raining, so the hills will be green and beautiful soon. Tomorrow, I'll be grateful that it's warm and sunny and I can enjoy walking on the beach.
But today, the focus is NOT on us. It's on OTHERS. We are successful only because of them -- God, family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, fellow church members....
What can I do today to show gratitude? Call someone. Send an email. Write a letter. Send a greeting card. Hug someone and say, "I really appreciate you. I'm so thankful that God sent you into my life today."
I try to stock up on "Thank You" greeting cards (50 cents each at the Dollar Store) and send out a few each week. Learn to recognize and write down little things people do that you are thankful for. Then send a brief thank you note -- it doesn't have to be time-consuming, writing 2 simple lines will do.
Even though you don't expect anything in return, you will be tremendously blessed. Amazingly enough, cultivating an "attitude of gratitude" will help you live healthier and longer (it's proven scientifically). Your positive attitude will attract others like a magnet. When your heart is filled with gratitude and appreciation, there is little room left for bitterness, anger, and grudges.
Ironically enough, I have found that those people who have the least (materially) are often living the fullest lives (because of gratitude). Those of us who have "everything".... sometimes we don't appreciate it until it's gone.
Take some time to give thanks today. And tomorrow. And the next day. Make it a habit to live an "attitude of gratitude".
