Guiding Principles

By
Real Estate Agent with America's 1st Choice RH Realty Co., Inc.

"To give anything
less than your best
is to sacrifice the gift."

Steve Prefontaine, 1951-1975
American Distance Runner

Steve Prefontaine was an amazing athlete who's life came to a tragic end. His life ended way too early.  The video below will give you a little insight into this young man's life and his drive to use his "gift" and excel in his sport.

In his short life Steve Prefontaine lived by a set of principles that guided his life and governed his actions.  Each of us has a set of "guiding" principles we live by; they govern the decisions we make and the manner in which we conduct our business.

Every now and then it's a good idea to review those principles (values) that guide our lives and evaluate the decisions we make.  Are we making the best use of our talents (gifts) and how can be best use them to excel in what we do?

What a fine example of giving all you've got, and enjoying the pleasure it gives others.  My favorite is his quote saying someone my beat me, but they'll have to BLEED to do it!  Good post.

Hi Jon:

Very nice tribute to Pre...I'm an avid running and happen to know his story well...

Isn't it great how sports impact our lives and even how we can relate that into the business world.

Good post Jon, I am a huge Pre fan and love his story. Did you notice in most of the pics that there were no other runners in the pic? Awesome man and athlete.

I was a cross country runner in Jr. High and High School in Oregon, near the Nike campus. Prefontaine was my idol despite only being 5 when he died. I had his poster on my wall instead of Heather Locklear like so many of my friends had. That quote was on that poster and I have tried to live my life by that and if you do as well, you really can't go wrong! Always give 100%! (21-6)

Todd - I'm not a runner but I've been a Prefontaine fan for years.  I remember watching him run as a youngster.  He had a heart bigger than most and certainly was an outstanding competitor.
