That is actually how long that it takes for everything to change. This post is more of a rant that a post. Hopefully, though, the message will stand loud and clear. Tonight woke me up to that very fact. Rich's mom, Carolyn owns a business here in Knoxville, Tennessee. She does like the rest of us and gets out daily to bust her behind to make a living. With the economy being the way that it is, business has been tough for her this year. Actually, it has been tough on everyone. Carolyn is a gamer and gets out and fights for her piece of the American pie daily.

With that said, her store was rob at gun point tonight. This is not the first time that this person has hit the area that her store is in. Thankfully Carolyn was not in the store when it happened, but there was an employee in the store. She did not deserve this and neither did Carolyn. For someone to stoop to that level is pathetic. Fortunately, all he wanted was the cash in the draw, and though it was only $230, it is the fact that it was money taken from a company that is working hard to make it in a difficult time.

I am not a violent person by any means, but when I hear about this, I want to get my five minutes alone with this creep. Personally, I think that it takes a coward to do something like this. Ultimately, he will get his. It is difficult to live this type of life and not eventually pay for the crimes that they commit.

All in all, everything is well that ends well. Everyone gets to go home to their loved ones and no one gets hurt. At this point, that is the important thing. Thanks for lending me an ear.

Danny  That explains why I haven't been able to get a response from Rich tonight.  What part of town is her business in?

Danny, I can sympathize with the clerk having been robbed at gunpoint twice before myself. The first time I was carrying a bag of money and someone ran up behind me and clicked to let me know they meant business. I really only remember seeing silver and dropping or either giving the bag. The next time our whole office got robbed. It is something that one never forgets and it was when I first really started to drink. I do not drink often but I did pick up a few when I was trying to reground myself after the fact of both occurrences. My prayers are with the clerk and his mom.

Hi Danny~  I was robbed by gunpoint when I was 16 ( yes, years ago)  while working in a red robin convenience store in Bensalem, PA.  Needless to say, I quit that job .  My mom made me quit after the robbery.  It is disgusting to me that people think it is ok to take what isn't theirs by force....

Years ago the favorite term for someone like that was scumbag.  Then there were a few choice other names, but those are not for a public forum.

I'm glad Rich's mom is OK and that the punk only wanted the money and was satisfied with his  loot.  Often times they want more and become even more unstable when there isn't any more.

An extra prayer tonight for Rich, Carolyn, the employee and yes - the punk.  In hopes that he will get his very soon.

That sucks to hear and exactly why I am pro gun ownership. Time to start shooting back in my opinion.

Crime does not pay, all it does is hurt good hardworking people. I am glad your Mom and her employee are ok.

It's disgusting what people will resort to.  I'm very sorry this happened, but I am glad no one was hurt.

Danny, On the news this morning they were talking about reaching grade-school kids to defend themselves against an armed attack. What a world... Steve Obeoman

It seems like this kind of thing happens more often around the holidays. It is always upsetting to me as well to hear about someone putting other peoples lives in danger by robbery. I could never do that to anyone.

Thanks to everyone for all your well wishes and kind words.

Everyone is okay. My mother's store is located on Cumberland Avenue in Knoxville which is actually a heavily patrolled main thoroughfare in Knoxville. It actually bisects the University of Tennessee and connects downtown with the western suburbs (though it changes names a few times). The area is generally considered very safe and is often crowded with college students walking to restaurants, bars, and retail shops. It is unfortunate but luckily nobody was harmed. The college coed who was working called the police as soon as the perpetrator left. The police were there in minutes but the guy was gone. There were two similar armed robberies in Knoxville, one yesterday and one the day before but I think they may have been by a different guy; the reports of the vehicle in those robberies was a blue Chevy Corsica whereas the guy who robbed my mother's store was in a silver truck. Crime is usually not a very big issue in Knoxville, especially violent crime. Obviously crime does happen everywhere though that is little consolation.
