What type blogger are you: 1) Content King 2) Hyperactive gnat

By
Real Estate Agent with Long and Foster BEL AIR MARYLAND

Well, with the problems being ironed out at Active Rain and the “pretty” features of my post currently disabled I find myself going…yikes what do I blog about if I cannot post a photo. I am a very visual person, carry my camera with me everywhere (well not to the bathroom and creepy stuff) and love to post photographs and house pictures.

I was reading someone else’s post (sorry I don’t remember who) that was talking about two kinds of bloggers: 1.) content bloggers and 2.) Folks like me. The content bloggers have a lot to say about everything and do a good job of writing material other content bloggers like to read. And then there are folks like me, type A, ADHD, hyperactive who cannot concentrate on those longs posts. We like to see a photo and a couple of paragraphs, or better yet just give us the bullets, we don’t need the fluff. An outline of your top three points works well with me. Give me the short and sweet and to the point, cut the crap, bottom line no frills posts.

Sometimes, I look at those long featured posts and think “I’ll never get one of those” because I am never going to have that much to say to fill more than a paragraph. So, my question is, if content is king but your reader is a hyper freak like me, can you write a post that conveys your message but does not alienate either the type 1 or type 2 blogger? And are you Type 1 or Type 2?

I guess I'm type 2, a hyperactive gnat.  I don't write really long blog posts.  I figure if most people are like me, they don't have time to read a long post and will lose interest. I like to keep it short and sweet!

LOL, can I be a hybrid of the two? I love good content, but needs lots of white space and pretty pictures to hold my wandering attention.

Colleen: Ok, a hybrid is good. I think I may be a hybrid sometimes too, depends on my caffeine intake.

Kelly - I like to read short articles with pictures, but most of what I write is somewhat wordy without enough illustrations. However, the featured posts that I have had tended to be shorter. You would think I would learn to keep my posts short and pithy, but heck, from this you can see that I can't even keep my comments short and pithy.

I'm right there with ya girlfriend!!  I don't like the long posts.  I get bored to quick.  It's the whole ADHD thing for me too! I like pictures, you can read those really fast . .lol

I have some posts that are long, but I try to use a lot of photos and spacing to make it easier for people to stay interested and follow along.  I usually won't stick with a post that is all words and runs on too long.  I am to impatient.  I also am visual and need to see those photos to keep interested.

I think we need to have different styles depending who is the targeted audience. If we are trying to attract consumers content should seem informed, but not so detailed it is  boring. when writing for other agents detail is more helpful
