It finally felt good to pay at the pump!!

I just got back from an errand and getting gas for my Explorer Sport Trac. I had to blog about this.

I filled my gas tank up with 21 gallons worth of gas.

 person pumping gas

I only paid $35.00

Just a few months ago, 21 gallons of gas would've cost me...

are you ready for this....

$ 95.00 !!!

Now check this out....

I read in the paper today that NC State wants to charge motorists by the mile.

They will either track our driving by a GPS system or by keeping track of our mileage at inspection time.

The TomTom One GPS System was around ...

They state that since the gas crisis, people are driving less, even with the drop in gas prices, and they have to make up the money somehow.

Huh?     Dumb guy with a big nose

This reminds me of this past year while we were in a serious drought condition. The state asked us to conserve water, and they instructed us on when we could use water for non-household purposes (ex. lawn watering). I would assume the majority of citizens followed instructions.

So what did we get for our obedience?...an increase in water charges! They said that since we were using less water, they had to raise the price.

again...     Why Ask Me?

All I can do is shake my head and shrug my shoulders.

This is definitely an example of the old saying, "you can't win for trying".

Typical. How so like the government to lower gas prices and then figure out a way to charge you for paying less for gas.  It really is ridiculous!

Love your images!

Love the lower gas prices!  Between my job as a realtor and my husband's 80 mile commute per day, the elevated prices were killing us!

Gov't will always try and shtup us somehow... coming or going, one way or the other, they aren't that selective!

Crazy!  I know that SC has been crying about less drivers on the roads, too, but they haven't yet talked about any crazy schemes to charge motorists by the mile.  Hopefully they won't either.

Tony - I can really relate to what you have posted.  I can remember in July and August it would cost me $60.00+ to fill up my tank.  I actually filled up this morning, for a mere $27.80.  It felt wonderful, and a tad liberating.

I'm right there!  Paid $104 to fill my tank this summer. Now $21 fills my wife's entire gas tank.  There's one bright side to this market!

That's the good news the bad news is the speculators are back in the market and oil went up $6.00 a barrel today.

Success and luck

Lou, I think who ever the speculators who got money, should be punished. Those money either should have come from gambling on oil or from subprime. Either one is a crime.

Hi Tony - We're down to $1.69 in the Las Vegas area from highs near $4.50 in the summer. I don't see how your state could accurately implement a 'per mile' charge, but it's a little scary to think that someone thought that was a viable solution!

Not enough people are having colonoscopy's... what will they start taxing us on there?

Alright, not a great example, but it is still symbolic of how this whole situation makes me feel!
