Yesterday was my 55th birthday and it was GREAT! There is so much talk about how great social media is for networking, whether it be for friendship or business, but yesterday I realized something else GREAT about it.
Everyone you know can wish you a Happy Birthday! With a click of a mouse you can receive "Happy Birthday" messages, cards, virtual gifts and even a virtual birthday cake! How fun is that!
So that is how I started my birthday. Reading all of my birthday emails and Facebook greetings, I was feeling very special indeed!
And then reality set in......the phone rang! And so began the phone calls of Birthday greetings and while I was on my land line my cell phone rang and when I hung up and checked the message....yep you got it....the "Happy Birthday Song" that I get every year from my girlfriend.
It is so much fun to save those messages and listen to them over and over. :-)
Oh, the singing did not stop there, my good friend that does some pickin' and grinnin' on his guitar at some of our casual get togethers, actual sang me a song over my Nextel 2 Way direct connect! Special me!!!
My daughters birthday was a few weeks ago and I sent her this virtual birthday card by email. I made it at a great little website called Blingee.com. Isn't she the "Birthday Princess"! Of course I think so, she's mine!
Hmmmm....as I think back and the memories flood back to my 50th Birthday (Yes...that dreaded, Over the Hill, It's the end of the world day).....I seem to recall that she may be a princess but an ANGEL she is not. The following memoir shows you what I mean............
Well, actually she is an angel but on that day she was a mischievous one! It was the proverbial 50th with a huge surprise party that I had NO CLUE that she and my "friends" were getting me good!
But that milestone has come and gone and here I am reflecting on the birthday just past that was a very special day. This one was a nice relaxing one, hanging out at home all day and having a wonderful meal prepared for me by my "sweetie"! A nice small gathering of friends and family, very laid back and casual, wine and steaks and OH Yes.....a delicious Italian Cream Birthday Cake! YUM! and the icing on the cake....a GIANT birthday card that sang me the CHICKEN DANCE!
It was funny when I was showing my girlfriend some photos on Facebook, another birthday card & virtual gift popped up for me! Yes, I was SPECIAL..... I was the Birthday Girl!
But the party is over and now it is time to get back to the daily routine which just happens to be Christmas! Oh, the joys of having a December birthday.....
But I am so excited because now I can look forward to being the "Giver of Birthday Cheer" as I click my mouse to send a virtual birthday card and gift to each and every one of my friends throughout the year!
And I will know how "Special" it makes them feel!
