GIVING during the Holiday Season - What's YOUR definition?

OK - so, as I wait for my meeting with a great local Michigan Realtor... with some time to burn there is some time to think and during the Holiday Season we do a lot of that in wondering how do we give back to the ones around us properly.

I ask what is your definition of giving during the Holiday Season?

Christmas is celebrating the life / birth of Jesus Christ who GAVE his life for us - for our sins...

Hundreds of years later we celebrate this with an abundance (if we are blessed enough to do so) of gifts in a material form that society tells us we have to - to sustain a prosperous economy, to compete with the Jones', to have the next best thing for the year, to show your love through a price tag or style, etc etc...

Is this truly giving or multiplying what you've been doing throughout the year for the loved ones surrounding you (kids, wife, husband, sister, mom, etc) ? Are they in "need" of 8 gifts under the tree totalling $800.00 racking up your credit card debt and most likely ending up in the back of the closet or donated 6 months later to the Salvation Army or a neighbor?

Honestly people - What is your true DEFINITION OF GIVING during the Holiday Season?

Have you ever thought that maybe you could give some blankets to the local shelter? How about a donation to your loved ones chosen charity in their name? or... How about time donated / given to a local charity to better the season for those less blessed than yourself and your family?

I seen so many people wearing the bracelets with WWJD (What would Jesus Do) engraved on them and it just raises (pun intended) the question...

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

Please - Remember what Christmas is all about - Christmas is not about going into debt financially and emotionally it is about helping the elderly neighbor shovel her walk, giving that extra change or dollar to the bucket for the frozen volunteer ringing the bell outside of the store your walking in and out of, giving your time to donate to the local shelter whether it's blankets, money, or service, giving that unwrapped toy to toy's for tot's as one Florida Realtor did as I blogged about how amazing the event was that I co-hosted earlier this month sending it via UPS - This is a man that I never met or known who did this!!! How about giving blood to the American Red Cross as the cookies are amazing :)

Christmas is in 2 days

- Remember THE original definition of Christmas...
