You can 'Hear' a smile ... (and it can be contagious :o)
It sounds like many people on here are experiencing heightened activity, which probably means more time on the phone.
I came across this great post from Sheldon Neal to help everyone to not miss an opportunity on the phone. Remember, you often only get one chance to gain someones attention with your first impression.
I was reading through a blog from Gary Woltal about 'Cheese' (?!) today, and it reminded me of a principle that I always believed in, and that has definitely helped me in business.
The phrase that I have subscribed to for decades, is for careers that you have to spend a lot of time on the phone. It simply states that "You can hear a smile".
It was told to me many years ago when my Sales Manager gave all the salespeople MIRRORS.
He set them down on each of our desks, and he told us to look into this mirror when we called clients.
If you look into the mirror when you talk to customers, and see a tired, lethargic looking salesman, who seems like they're just going through the motions, then guess what ... your client will probably sense the same thing ! ... and you dont want a client to think that they are not your highest priority now do you ?!?!?!?
This is SOOOOOOOOO true in Real Estate !! ... whether it's clients or other Realtors.
With so many Realtors in your shadows, you dont want clients to get turned off in communications with you because you answer the phone in a blah-type of manner, instead of a pleasant, smiling manner that they look forward to ! And it can be infectious ! Many times people have picked up the phone to me in a grouchy manner, and I've been pleasantly professional, and before long they've perked up and we have an upbeat conversation !
It's not always easy because we are always so accessible, and lets face it, we all have bad days ! ... but I think it is a hugely important practise to take a breath before you pick up your phone, and 'answer with a smile' !!!
... trust me, the person on the other end can 'hear your smile' :o)
Cheers !
