What Have I Gotten Myself Into?

Our office has decided that Monday, February 2nd, we will begin our own version of The Biggest Loser.  If you are not familiar with this reality show, it is a competition for most weight loss.

We'll each be putting up $25 and breaking into teams, just like in the reality show.  Unsure as to whether there will be weekly eliminations for folks that are the under performers, but I will certainly be playing like that is how we are playing.

Initially, the competition was going to be based on the honor system, but I refused to put my hard earned money in for the honor system.  When money is at stake, I want accountability.  And besides, starting from the point of embarassment over your beginning weight is not a great mindset for this game.  We all have to be mentally "in it to win it."  That means knowing that your beginning weight doesn't matter.  The weight is coming off!  It's the end weight that matters.

I think we have decided on an eight week competition.  I'll let you know how long I stay in.  But I am in this to win it.  Heck...I may even blog my beginning weight on Monday.  I'd be happy with a ten pound loss over two months...that's my minimum goal.  So starting Monday it's all about veggies, low sugar and carb intake, and exercising.  That last component is really where I need to motivate myself.

Wish me luck!

Yikes!  Good luck with that, Chris Ann!  I think it's a great concept, but without some guidance and support, things could get UGLY in your office.   LOL

"When money is at stake, I want accountability" I am so with you on this one, especially when it comes to a wager!

Best of Luck to you!

Good luck, Chris Ann. 10 pounds in 8 weeks is a very doable goal (of course, that's easy for me to say!).

Randy:  I think we'll end up spelling out the rules on Monday.  But there is definitely a weigh in.  Our receptionist is the monitor and has been sworn to secrecy.

Russell:  In the meantime, my husband has put me on a high sodium, crap diet for the weekend.  Guaranteed to weigh in heavier than normal...then just drop a lot of that water weight the first week.  That's not cheating, it's strategy.

Jackie:  I'm definitely doing it.  I'm enlisting my hubby as my personal trainer.  He's lost so much weight it's ridiculous.

Chris Ann, that sounds like a good motivational goal.  I started doing one online with a bunch of twitter people, but it was so intangible, I sort of lost interest.  I am staying steady, but need to get back to it!!  Good luck!!

Chris Ann, our office did that last year.  Everyone had to put in $100 dollars and they did the diet thing for eight weeks as well.  I was the only one not allowed to enter since I am reasonably fit.  It was the grumpiest, most tense eight weeks ever and it got worse as time went on!  However, they finished and we had a grand winner who took home a fair amount of money!!!

I wish you luck!

Audrey:  Will let you know how this goes.  If you're as competitive as me, you would do great against your office in something like this.

Sharon:  Me too!  That would be something.

Tom:  I don't care how grumpy folks get.  I work from home most days.  That also gives me the ability to stay away from the vending machine and the goodies the builders and title companies bring in.

Chris Ann, I may have to jump in remotely and start my eight weeks tomorrow, too!  It is looooong overdue.

Good luck. Try "Dancin' to the Oldies."

I put on weight after surgery six years ago and have never been able to lose it. However, my daily walks help me maintain my weight, and I always get some good pictures and thoughts for marketing, not to mention blogging here. Yesterday's walk was a full hour along Sunset Cliffs at the ocean. 117 pictures, some of which I'll be sharing this week. I'm trying to take advantage of Localism this year.

Margaret:  I am hopeful this will provide the motivation I've been lacking.

Jim:  That's a great idea!  I love walks.  Of course, your scenery is better than mine.

Sheldon:  Sadly, I was the only one brave enough to say my weight today.  194.2.  There it is for everyone to see.  I don't see the point in keeping it a secret.  It hasn't helped thus far.  :)

OK... we're gonna win you this contest ...

> have you scripted a weekly exercise schedule ? ... it's ALWAYS best to put it on the calendar like an appointment and keep to it, and remember cardio is key ! (Exercise bike, stepper, treadmill)

> of course, exercise must coincide with with the 'right' nutritional intake. Carbs and calories affect different people different ways, so you'll have to see what adds or reduces more weight (breads and carbs, or dairy fats and sugars) and reduce accordingly.

> YOU CAN DOOOOO THIS CHRIS ANN !!!!

PS: Hope this doesnt come across like a Richard Simmons shout out ! - I'll keep quiet now, and just wish you all the best !!!

There's nothing like friendly competition to keep you motivatied. That's what I need right now. I'll have to check back to see how it goes! Good luck.

Sheldon:  Nope.  You are not coming across as Richad Simmons.  :)  The nutrition is the easy part for me.  I LOVE veggies...so cutting carbs is not a big deal.  I have an elliptical machine in the basement.,...not to mention the fact that my husband is a boxing enthusiast so he has all kinds of bags and medicine balls.  If he helps me beyond the cardio, I'll be a lean mean fighting machine.

Besides, mentally, I'm already in a better position.  I am no longer keeping this weight number to myself.  I need accountability...and clearly I've found that in my friend Sheldon.

Russell:  Since there is now accountability for weight, I can use this as motivation.  I'm very competitive with my co-workers.

Vicki:  I'll keep everyone posted.  So far, so good.  I'm feeling like this is very doable.
