MCA Denver Educational Program

Real Estate Agent with Perry & Co.

As a member of the Stapleton United Neighbors (SUN) Board, I received a copy of letter sent to the board president announcing a great educational program being offered at the Museum of Contemporary Art.  Per Ms. Mills-Robertson's request I have posted the information on my blog to help spread the word.  The MCA is located at 1485 Delgany Street, Denver, CO, 80202.

I am writing to you about an exciting and educational program at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA DENVER). This family-oriented program takes place the first and third Sunday of every month focusing on the extraordinary works of notable contemporary artists exhibiting in the museum. I would appreciate the opportunity for you to share this information with your Neighborhood Association groups and residents through your neighborhood newsletter, neighborhood meetings or any form of communication medium you use to disseminate information.

Sponsored by the Fox Family & US Bank, SmArt Brunch Sundays provides creative time for families to explore the Museum, talk about art and engage with MCA DENVER's education staff and docents. Each visit begins with a tour – the adults go in one direction with a guide and the kids go with an education specialist. Afterwards, adults convene in the MCA CAFE to discuss their insights about the work on view. All responses are welcome. After the tour, the kids go to the Idea Box where they participate in a workshop with Education staff to make objects, drawings or mixed media wonders. By the end, everyone comes together to share their amazing behind the scenes experience of the Museum over a light tasty brunch.

Families with children ages 7-13 are welcome to register for the program a week in advance. Participation fee is $15 per person for non-members and $7 per person for members. Fee covers general admissions, tour, art activity, and light brunch. To register for the program, please contact me, Ama Mills-Robertson, by either email at amam@mcadenver.org or by phone at 303-298-7554 ext. 203.

I hope your Neighborhood Association and residents will take advantage of this fabulous family program. To learn more about MCA DENVER, please visit our website at www.mcadenver.org.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Ama Mills-Robertson
Education Associate

Schedule of SmArt Brunch Sundays Program (February-April 2009)

February Yarn Connections

On February 1st & 15th, families will work with the current Artist-in-Residence, Ana Maria Hernando, to explore the crocheting techniques of the women and girls of Mollamarca—a small town in Peru—through her exhibition in the Project Gallery. Children will learn to finger knit/crochet with colorful yarn to create scarves, bracelets, necklaces and other amazing handmade accessories.

March Foam Tray Printmaking

On March 1st & 15th, families will learn about printmaking through the exhibition by Shark’s Ink in the Paper Works Gallery. Students will make their own one of a kind prints which will be a fun way to introduce them to working with patterns and shapes.

April Preserving Memories

On April 5th & 19th, families will preserve significant items as a foundation to discuss Damien Hirst’s exhibition in the Large Works Gallery. Children are asked to bring objects to transform into lasting keepsakes. These objects can be family photos, favorite miniature toys or found items that can be transformed into bars of soap.
