Blogging Police. Am I Spamming? Please Help. Pretty New to AR.

By
Real Estate Agent with Oakstone Properties, Homes in Richmond VA

I Need Help!  I have been contacted by a member of AR that I believe has been around for a long, long time(Judging by her points) that says that I have been spamming.  I just started here (and blogging at all) in Oct. or Nov. of 2008.  I was told at a tech. seminar to make sure to use SEO when you blog.  Is this spam?  When I view this persons blog, there is plenty of wording on the bottom of her page and under her picture asking for business.  I happen to write my lines in at the begining and end of my blog.  I am actually doing a blog each day about the different Ammendments to the Constitution.  I put my usual line before and after the blog.  I have seen plenty of blogs on AR that take days to complete.  Please let me know if I am doing things wrong.  Like I said, I am VERY new at this and would like to know if I am breaking the rules.  Everyone here has always had great things to say and I try to say great things about their blogs....Until now.  This is the FIRST and ONLY person to come at me like this and I am not sure how to take it.

Thank You,

Nate Rowe

One opinion does not a spam make....not sure exactly what you mean...confront your accuser and

see if she has anything valid to point out....

I use search terms and consistent wording at the bottom of my blogs and have never been visited by the spam police. However, if you are using your "advertisement", name, contact information, etc when you comment that is considered spamming.

If your using advertising on other peoples comments that is spam.  What your doing looks to be okay.

There really aren't a lot of "rules" to blogging (except the one about NO PLAGIARISM), but plenty of guidelines. The best way to learn what's "acceptable" is to read a lot.  If you read and comment on 10 posts a day for 2 weeks, you'll have a pretty good handle on what's good and what's not.

I had my comments deleted today because I proved someone wrong, but it wasn't spamming and neither are you.

Nate, I am new to this as well but it looks fine to me. You just list your name and area a few more times in a blog than the "average" blogger but I don't think it is considered spam. I think if it were, the AR Gods would let you know.

Nate,

If in doubt about what you are writing.  Email Brad Andersohn or Bob Stewart (go to search above and find them and their email addresses) and just ask. They are just two of the people that could answer your questions. There are others, however, check your issues out with them.

I don't know who your guardian angel is, however if they have lot's...over 200,000 points, they are probably giving you some good advice.

Hey Nate,

I don't have many points, but I see nothing wrong with your posts.  Maybe you could add a picture of Lucy to every other post.  That ought to keep just about everyone happy!   :)

Nate:  The only thing I can think of... is when you start out each and every post with your "Hello There" line... identifying yourself.  Then... all your identifying info at the end of your post, too.  I cannot ever remember anyone else beginning their blog posts like you do... so that might be what this AR person was referring to.  After reading five or six of your posts just now... it DID grow to be annoying having to read that over and over again... but that's just me.

Also... if when you comment... and put all your identifying info in the comment, that WOULD be spamming... but I do not know if you do that.

Nate,

I agree with Karen about your greeting at the top of the blog, and at the bottom, not to mention that your photo and information is also visible. There was too much ABOUT ME (you) going on in the post.  You lost me at hello.  Nothing personal, I'm sure you're a great guy.

Nate,

I would figure out how to put that keyword dense first sentence over in your side column under your picture.  Every post you do has your right column  in it so it should be just as effective as it being in the body of the post.

If anything, I'd keep it down at the bottom of the post.   Unless that's how you start out every conversation that you have with people in person.  If it is, then I think you have bigger problems.

If you are going to have a link in your post you might as well make it worthwhile and have the anchor text be more useful than just your url.  Who's going to search for your url?  It's easy to make it be "Richmond Homes" or whatever you are shooting to be found for.

Spam is always what the other guy does to gain advantage that for whatever reason you decide not to do.

Nate, I hope the person who contacted you has provided some additional info and guidance for you.  I find that most people on AR are pretty helpful.

Whenever I have a flat-out spam comment (where they comment and include a link to their site of blog) I nicely tell them that it's considered spam.  Many people don't realize that it's wrong.  They've seen it elsewhere and think it's OK.
