As Mother's Day approaches I thought I would share some thoughts with you. These are NOT MINE, but those of my wife, Kay, who wrote the following. I cannot take any credit for this, other than to have asked for it to be shared publicly.
Perhaps it will inspire you personally.
Or you might share the notion with someone you love - children, siblings, friends and neighbors.
The tremendous power to do good in our world is at our fingertips, we need only share the idea so that others may be inspired to do what they can, and perhaps should.
This is not an attempt to deprive anyone of money for their products or services, but to consider our social consciousness and awareness, and find a way that we might help those in need.
Perhaps this is the greatest gift of all that we can give the Mothers of the world.
When you consider the impact of this small gesture, it boggles the mind as to what can be accomplished.
Consider this my challenge to you. What can YOU do?
Dear Child of Mine, You asked what I want for Mother's Day. After thinking on this, I have now finally come up with a list for you. Thank you for asking. I love you very much. CARD Please pick out a wonderful card for me. Look at the price of it, add in the tax, and add in the cost of the postage. This will probably be about $3.50. Please take that money and put it in the cup of someone asking for money on the street. This person in need is someone's child, maybe someone's mother. They should be treated on mother's day. (So please do not give the money to Hallmark Cards, or the government and post office for taxes for war that kill mother's children.) FLOWERS Please choose a beautiful arrangement for me. Look at the price of it, etc. as above. This will probably be anywhere from $10 to $50. Decide on an organization helping children and please send a check in that amount to them for mother's day. These children all have mothers, and will some day, perhaps, become a mother. They need someone to "mother" them today with your check. BEAUTIFUL SCARF Please consider a beautiful silk scarf for me, one with striking colors and exquisite flow. Take the price of it (perhaps $50-$75) and find the local shelter for women or abused women. These women are someone's children, and perhaps they are somebody's mother themselves. Send enough money for that beautiful scarf to her via that homeless shelter. I do not need that scarf as I have plenty already but someone at that shelter needs a clothing item. SUMPTUOUS BRUNCH Find the best restaurant in town and call and ask how much their Mother's Day Brunch is this year. It will probably be $50 - $75 dollars. Find your local food pantry or community free dinner. Be sure to go to their next event and take the Brunch money with you as your contribution for your meal or your food. TELEPHONE CALL Please call me on Mother's Day. The sound of your voice and your report on what you have bought for me is all I ask. I love you because you have a giving heart. Love, Mom |
