So... I thought I'd be cute and funny and help our beloved Hidden Moderator to a weekend of fun. I was headed out of town anyway so I took Flat Hidden Moderator with me to visit my friends and family in Louisville, Kentucky for the 133rd Kentucky Derby Weekend.
The weekend itself was fun. Everyone was glad to see my son since he only gets a couple visits a year there. I had the chance to see the city where I grew up... and there were lots of dinners, parties, etc where I could amuse myself...
But the dark cloud rolled in early... I don't know what Flat Hidden Moderator's problem was but the flight started with him complaining constantly about a lack of room... and he blamed my 15.5 month old son!
I didn't like that so much - so Flat Hidden Moderator got upgraded to the overhead storage in my briefcase!
hahaha?
I paid for that one! (no... that's not why you've only seen 2 blogs from me this week!)
The minute we hit the ground in Louisville, Kentucky, Flat Hidden Moderator escaped and I was in chase all weekend! I guess Flat Hidden Moderator's time in my ultraluxurious Tumi briefcase wasn't as plush as expected and so Flat Hidden Moderator spent the entire time plotting revenge.
The first thing you'll notice is that I have not posted a photo yet! Why? Well... it seems that Flat Hidden Moderator is a bit of a techie and reprogrammed my camera so 90% of the pictures from a gorgeous Canon SD450 Digital Elph are fuzzy.... except for the ones I took on DIGITAL zoom which makes NO SENSE.
So... I had to get busy with a few more cameras! and some pictures from my friends and family!
We headed out on Friday Morning to Churchhill Downs.... for the 133rd Running of the Kentucky Oaks. And... it started raining right before we stepped out in our nice clothes!! I don't know how it was possible but Flat Hidden Moderator had SOMETHING to do with it! I know it!
Grey skies are going to clear up?? NO THEY DID NOT.
I'm not bitter... I enjoyed my family and friends... and my day at the races... but Flat Hidden Moderator was a pain.
Notice the toteboard to the right... see the grey in the background. It kept me from getting sunburned this year! so HA!
It was actually a good day for the favorites... but they don't pay well. There were a few long shots that placed so Exactas, Trifectas and Superfectas paid well...
But Flat Hidden Moderator HAD to be caught... so my wife and I sent out on the hunt. We headed to the infield because our intell text messaged us a sighting.
Here you can see Flat Hidden Moderator in the bottom right of the frame trying to get ACROSS the track!! Flat Hidden Moderator is the one in bright orange/red.
I don't know what Flat Hidden Moderator was thinking... it was muddy, the horses were running... and security was high.
There is a tunnel under the track...that's the SMART way to go.
So I got my tickets to the Caesars Indiana VIP Hospitality Tent in the Infield so I could get a better vantage point - and some free food and
drink. I obviously needed the drink!
Flat Hidden Moderator had already struck... there was a hole in my mint julep glass!
So off I went!
The punk had to be stopped... and fast!
You can see... it was busy... but that red jacket was everywhere!!
WHATEVER... I had to enjoy myself!
Look... the Churchill Downs Twin Spires...
and lots of people...
and do I see a red jacket!?!?!
well.... it turns out Flat Hidden Moderator wasn't done with me....
Flat Hidden Moderator had found some of Louisville's finest and sent them looking for ME!
Nicely played!
The problem is that my uncle and two cousins are high up in the Louisville Metro Police force so I got out of the chokehold once they checked out my ID. Flat Hidden Moderator had told them I was underage... I don't look underage!!
The nice officers apologized profusely and offered me a taser to aid in my apprehending of Flat Hidden Moderator.
But as I made it into the Paddock Area (just around the corner from the Infield tunnel)... Flat Hidden Moderator was gone...
I found a friend holding Flat Hidden Moderator's jacket!!
Flat Hidden Moderator had escaped the track!!!
At least I got some great memories... and great pictures from my friends!
and the horses ran nicely despite the rain!
