I have a great passion for working with furnishings, textures, placement, and balance within rooms. I love solving problems as to why a room doesn't work and tackling projects for which there don't seem to be any good solutions. I think outside of the box and delight in new challenges.
Although this is my passion, the early years of my career were spent in sales and marketing, and then as founder, President and CEO of two specialized temporary staffing firms. Even as my companies thrived, I found myself practicing home design and redesign techniques on friends and relatives--just for fun. I sold my businesses, and then my husband and I decided to sell our home during this market downturn. I hired an experienced stager to stage our home and was totally enamored of the process. This was an entirely new concept of design--combining marketing with interior design. To our delight, our home sold in five weeks and for more money than the realtor had originally wanted as a listing price.
In addition to being a graduate of the Sheffield School of Interior Design in New York, I am an HSR Certified Professional Home Stager and Redesigner, having completed the only accredited staging training course recognized by the Real Estate Staging Association (RESA). I am also a proud member of ASHR (American Society of Home Stagers and Redesigners) and RESA.
Today I bring the same passion and sense of fun I share with my friends, relatives, and clients. I truly love what I do and it never seems like work to me at all. I believe that everyone is entitled to live in an environment they love and are comfortable in. I sincerely believe in the power of staging a home to sell it quickly. Whether it is redesign, interior decorating, or home staging, I put my passion to work to accomplish great things for my clients.
90% of today's buyers preview a home by viewing photos on the Internet before deciding whether or not to visit the home in person. With the number of houses on the market today, realtors and home sellers have only two options to sell a property--reduce the price or stage it. Staged homes sell faster and for the most dollars. On average, professionally staged homes sell 50% faster and for 6-10% more money than non-staged homes. Home Staging is reported to be the third most valuable home improvement project to a seller when it comes to selling a home.
In staging a home, my goal is to accentuate every positive feature of a home and neutralize any negatives. I view every aspect of a home through the eyes of a potential buyer. Then, by combining interior design principles and marketing concepts I "set the stage" in every room to showcase the entire home. Starting with existing interior furnishings I concentrate on furniture placement, balance, color harmony, and accessories, all to make potential buyers fall in love with the property.
Redesign is the art of transforming your living spaces into rooms you love--starting with what you already own. As a Certified Professional Redesigner, I bring you the full complement of interior design analysis and skills to transform a room into a space you never want to leave.
Limited budget? I start with what you have and, if necessary for your space, I suggest additional items and/or accessories, which you can purchase in the future to complete your space. Because I love to repurpose, recycle and reuse before I even begin to think about shopping, I can make your dollars stretch even more!
If a space in your home doesn't "feel" quite right or you just moved and your furnishings just don't seem to "work" as well as they did in your last home, we'll discuss how you actually use a room and then work on furniture placement, color balance, proportions, scale, etc., to transform the "space" into a place you love.
Busy and no time for all of this? Redesign takes a minimal amount of time--sometimes just few hours. And if you don't have time for shopping, I can happily perform that function for you, too. What better than having an experienced designer shop for you, especially if you find the number of choices overwhelming or just can't decide on the right item to purchase?
Redesign is falling in love with your home all over again.
Does your home reflect your personality, your life, your needs, and your style? My desire is for you to answer “yes” emphatically to each of these questions.
Not sure what your style is? I can help you discover it.
Looking for new furnishings? Let me help you with a floor plan and design concept so what you buy actually works in the room.
Tight budget? Interior design does not need to be expensive to produce amazing results. I am very creative and am able to work within any budget. Visit my webiste and review my Portfolio to see some remarkable rooms that I have been done on a limited budget.
Interior Decorating at its simplest is creating a room that meets the functions, aesthetics and resources of a client. Creating wonderful interior spaces does not have to involve large budgets, custom furniture and expensive furnishings. I enjoy working with clients who might not normally work with a designer—and design interiors that are "just your style".
Whether it’s just window coverings you’re looking for, or several rooms you wish to redecorate, I’m here to help you make your dreams come true.
“I very much enjoyed my experience collaborating with Janet and am indebted to her for undertaking this challenging project. I initially purchased my older home with the intention of restoring a lot of its natural charm and architectural beauty. However, I was clueless how to pull it all together.
Janet listened very carefully to what I wanted and was able to create a workable plan that pulled from her vast knowledge of color, texture, and products. She showed me how important it was to make the rooms flow, working off each other. The results were stunning. I just love the casual elegance, warmth, and charm of each room. I still can't believe this is my home!" --- Susan J.
Janet advised and consulted me on my redesign and remodel of my master bath. Starting with an outdated 1980’s compartmentalized room, I wanted to create a Tuscan design with a contemporary flair. I put this project on hold for over a year because I was unable to envision what I wanted. I needed someone with an objective view of the space who could offer multiple possibilities; someone with a sense of style, and the expertise and professionalism to turn my dream into reality.
Janet drew up multiple designs on her computer. We selected the design that would best create a new master bath with a “spa-like” feel, yet staying within my budget. Her suggestion to remove a small existing wall, create a new entry door, and replace the over-sized corner tub with a standard size jacuzzi, opened up the room giving it a more expansive look and feel. Careful selection of cabinetry, fixtures and tile completed the Tuscan decor.
I am very pleased with the amazing transformation. My bathroom is now a showplace. --- Diane A.
"Janet combines her amazing vision with great energy. We started tweaking a few furniture placements and ended up investing a full day rearranging three connected spaces, but it was well worth it. The difference was a comfortable and refreshing change in a small area with lots of challenges." --- Linda K.
"Our family room looked dated and busy with lots of niches. Janet proposed a design that added floor space, highlighted our fireplace, and allowed for a large flat screen TV. We sold our house quickly in this tough market and the buyer commented on how much he loved the family room."
