Well Folks, Hurricane Season is officially here as of Today, June 1st, 2011. And it begins with a tropical system just of the eastern coast. Hurricanes are nothing to laugh at, but fortunately, lots of warning time usually accompanies them, and having an evacuation plan in force is a DARN GOOD IDEA!
Every year, my family hauls the emergency kit out of the garage in May. We check batteries in each flashlight and in the weather radio, we make sure our medical supplies are good to go, and we confirm that (17 comments)

Hurricane Awareness Week Today officially marks the beginning of Hurricane Awareness Week. Every year from May 23rd - May 29th, the National Hurricane Center promotes education and safety in regards to Hurricane Season.
Knowing what to watch for and how to be prepared can save your life. Storm Surge, Extremely High Winds, Flooding and Tornadoes are all important factors when considering your family's hurricane emergency plan.
Hurricane Season officially begins on June 1st and lasts through November 30th. That is not to say that a hurricane or tropical storm can't occur outside of those dates. (5 comments)
