Justice came to Sanford last night…whether you agree with it or not

Justice came to Sanford last night…whether you agree with it or not

A funny thing happened while some folks slept last night:  justice came to Sanford, Florida in the form of George Zimmerman being found NOT GUILTY by a jury of his peers.  To be sure, that is NOT GUILTY of 2nd-degree murder and NOT GUILTY of manslaughter.
While “happy” might not be an appropriate word here, I can surely understand that the verdict at the end of Zimmerman’s trial might bring relief to some and grief to … (6 comments)

One year later: Trayvon Martin still gone, Sanford marches on...
Hard to believe it's already been a year. I've lived here in Apopka for 5 and 1/2 years now, and I've managed properties over a wide portion of Central Florida since I arrived here. The Retreat at Twin Lakes was just another of this area's endless number of townhome communities for a long time- nice places, but nothing special.
For the past year, though, The Retreat at Twin Lakes has simply been known as "that gated … (8 comments)

Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection...pre-meeting

Family of Trayvon Martin rally with group looking to repeal "Stand Your Ground" law (officially Florida Statute 776: Justifiable Use of Force)

I spent a good bit of today attending the meeting of Florida's Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection.  It was an enlightening time (to say the least).  As virtually anyone who knows me will tell you, I have long been a supporter of law enforcement- and I'm a supporter … (0 comments)

George Zimmerman in jail, other Trayvon thoughts

Hard to live and work around here without this case taking over at least some part of your day.  Driving into Sanford this afternoon, for example, I thought "Dang.  Hope there aren't any protests today that are gonna have the roads shut down".  Might be silly, but that was a thought.
As I've made a number of comments while this case progressed, I'd be remiss if I failed to comment on things as they stand now- and actually would've done so earlier today had I not had 13 showings.  So, here we go, … (16 comments)

If I had a hammer....

If I had a hammer....

At first, I thought it was a bit troubling that Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis decreed that all Department of Labor buildings across the country must display these posters.  The thought that there's any type of pseudo-official endorsement of race-hustling publicity pimps Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson nearly turned my stomach.
But then I remembered all of the great things Sharpton and Jesse have in store for us as Americans.  You know- "justice" and all.
Here's your opportunity, Al and Jesse:  Prove to us here- and all of … (6 comments)

Tell me again...why did you choose me?

Tell me again...why did you choose me?

I'd dare say that most of us have some sort of lead or prospect tracking system.  It may be a program such as Top Producer that we use at Legends Realty, or perhaps your "system" is an Excel spreadsheet under a McDonald's sack in the floorboard of your car.  Regardless the complexity of the system, it's important to track your prospects.

Everyone has a tale of "the one that got away", and of hoping that whatever pushed that potential client away won't be … (4 comments)

God Bless the Sanford Police Department
Folks will notice a new logo/image at the end of my signature line for a while. It's the badge of the embattled Sanford (FL) Police Department. I will include it for an indefinite period of time as a showing of support for this local police force- a group of folks on the streets 24 hours/day in looking to both serve and protect all of us here.
The Sanford Police Department is coming under fire from all parts of the world these days. It seems that anyone who doesn't work or have anything else to do with … (51 comments)

Lock your deadbolts first

Lock your deadbolts first
Every now and then, I'll actually stumble across a bit of knowledge I'd like to share with folks.  Now, that goes against the grain of our business- 'cause we all have Top Secret info than nobody else in the whole wide world could've ever thought of before us.  And if someone were to get hold of that info....well, I just won't even think of that scenario.
So here it goes... Check your locks- both locks- in cases where you have both a deadbolt and a knob/handle lock.  When leaving as you wrap … (6 comments)

Aloma's loss, First Baptist Atlanta's gain- one of God's soldiers marches on...
This is a tough one.  There's an old Tennessee Ernie Ford country Gospel song that instructs us to live by the will of God, and to a call- or as it says, "Children go where I send thee...".  The Lord has chosen to lead Pastor Anthony George away from sunny Central Florida and Aloma Church- and has steered him towards First Baptist Atlanta.
Aloma Church says farewell to Pastor Anthony tomorrow, and I say so long … (2 comments)

How much did you make off Trayvon Martin today?

How much did you make off Trayvon Martin today?
$10 each. “Get your Trayvon Martin Memorial Rally shirts here!”  Or something like that.  Amazing how so many folks want you to believe they’re in favor of “justice”, while they’re all in it for fame and the Almighty Dollar..or $10.  I don’t know if this entrepreneur is strictly a local franchisee of some sort…or if he’s part of some entrepreneurial co-op…or… Never mind- this guy is just flat-out making money off of a dead kid.  Nothing cute about that.  And nothing cute … (9 comments)

Oh where have you gone, Common Courtesy?

Common Courtesy (and it's significant other, Common Sense) seem to have become much less common over the last week or so...or maybe it's just that some of my tenant prospects are just plain rude and inconsiderate.
Need to re-schedule a showing appointment?  No problem.  Forgot about me until I called to confirm- so you need to call back with a better date?  Cool.  Gotta cancel (even at the last minute) 'cause your dog ate some homework from that Pre-Med class you're takin', and you just have to re-do it right now?  OK, not … (16 comments)

Tragedy, racism and a circus:  the death of Trayvon Martyr Martin

Editor’s note for those outside of our little part of America:  Trayvon Martin was a 17-year-old young black man when he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a Hispanic man.
I hate this Trayvon Martin story….hate it, hate it, hate it- for it’s a story filled with nothing but losers.  Death crowns no victors save the one(s) who’ve gone home to see the face of Jesus- and the circumstances surrounding Trayvon Martin’s death are known but to … (11 comments)
