spam: Your Comment was Kinda Creepy but THANKS... - 01/15/13 09:59 PM
Your Comment was Kinda Creepy but THANKS...  for the heads up that there was also spam comment on the post.
Maybe I'm a prude... or maybe it was seeing the NEW comment on a 2006 post in the middle of the night that made your comment seem kinda creepy when I read it on my phone.
The 2006 post is about plumbing.
Your 2013 comment was about sex.  I deleted your comment.

spam: SPAM: where there are elephantine crowds - 11/18/12 01:02 AM
where there are elephantine crowds is a gibberish phrase in SPAM.
A bot?  Or a worker in a 3rd World Country cutting and pasting in gibberish comments for low pay?  The kind of gibberish left in comment spam like the comment spam left on a Worthington, Ohio restaurant post I wrote in August 2009.
More of the gibberish:
"Constantly make off pictures of your children while you are on vacation. Fritter away your phone if admissible, and get pictures when you are universal in to any activity where there are elephantine crowds and getting baffled might be possible."

spam: Spamming: A Commenting Strategy - 12/11/11 06:21 AM
Is Westchester Hardwood Floors I mean Debbie's strategy to use keywords instead of her name  something you would do when reading a post on another blog and commenting?  She is suggesting this as a strategy outside ActiveRain, not on ActiveRain Outside blogs but on really, really outside blogs, your WordPress.org, WordPress.com, Blogger.com etc. sites.
I was surprised yesterday or the day before that my WP.org blog got hit with a lot of spam suddenly.  I wondered if after doing some updates if I had left my "spam" plugin deactivated by accident. Turns out the free version of what I was using … (18 comments)

Making a bad first impression....
ActiveRain has Guidelines. The link is at the bottom of each page.

A vendor (someone looking for business from real estate agents), left a comment on a post about Facebook, I was asking for help from anyone who is familiar with iwipa  for Facebook.
I said people could share their custom pages... so maybe I asked for the second link in the comment.  Her Facebook page is selling custom Facebook pages to real estate agents

Pest Control - bed bug spam
On one of my bed bug posts a local real estate agent? maybe he is a broker?  left a comment with two links to  information about bed bugs.   Overnight the comment spam appeared.  Make that two of the four "bed bug" posts I've written for consumers  on ActiveRain, a real estate network... two of the four posts I wrote about bed bugs had bed bug spam this morning from a local real estate agent?  broker?  pest?
One of the two links is to a new bed bug site. His.

Could a local real estate brokerage benefit using comment spam?
On my post:  Worthington Ohio's Best Hometown - 2011
I got a comment with a link to a local brokerage.  The comment said:
"Hello.. All the 5 places are really good. I am also planning to take my own home in Ohio and I will choose any of these 5 place."

The title says "Do not delete the spam comments" in pig Latin.

I did not know not to delete the spam comments on my blog.  I have been hitting report a concern and then deleting comments on my blog all along.  I think I read Bob Stewart's comment this morning after I deleted the spam that had accumulated overnight.
I blocked outside comments last night but I still had a few spam comments this morning... does that mean some of the spammers are members? I've racked up lots of points reporting spam comments on … (18 comments)

spam: SPAM Points - the easiest points on ActiveRain - 06/30/09 11:15 PM

Report Spam when you see it on your blog, another members blog, an abandoned blog.  Don't worry about whether they could or will report the spam themselves....
Just do it.
It is so easy to do.
Click "Report a Concern" at the bottom right on the comment.  It is just left of the time the comment is left if you hover there it will appear.  ActiveRain does the rest. Sometimes but not always  a pop up opens up so it takes a second click.

"Are you sure you want to report this comment?"
You betcha.
The pop up  tells … (64 comments)

spam: Carbon Footprint of email SPAM - 04/22/09 02:05 AM

McAfee did a report about the Carbon Footprint of email spam
Save a Tree
It's 12 pages so "Save a Tree" don't print it out... isn't  "Save a Tree" kind of 1969?  The first Earth Day was in 1969. We went on a field trip to ???  in Mrs. Williamson's class in school and learned about ecology, conservation... we learned about "saving a tree" I think.
We've come so far, 2009 it's all about the "Carbon Footprint."  I understood "Save a Tree" better.

spam: Maureen you ignorant dinosaur - 04/19/09 10:39 PM
A comment left on my ActiveRain blog(s) on an old post written to consumers about Open Houses:

I was not sure exactly what is Chuck is selling.  I can't tell who Chuck is selling his product to.  Central Ohio home buyers?  That is who the old post Chuck comment spammed is written to.

Or is Chuck trying to interest me in something he is offering to real estate agents?  I can assure you something that reads to me like:

is NOT going to make me want to do business with Chuck or any product he is associated with.

spam: ActiveRain Easter Egg Hunt - 04/04/09 01:00 AM

ActiveRain Easter Egg Hunt or Green Eggs and SPAM?

I don't know what your experience in the past couple of weeks has been but I keep finding comments that I was not aware of.  My ActiveRain Settings ususally  let me know if there is a comment made on my posts.  Comments are usually on My Home and in my email.
Lately a number of comments have NOT been in either place.
Yesterday I got an email and a notification about Maggie and and Khash's comments but not Lenn's and Steve's on the same post. It's always a pleasant surprise … (47 comments)

spam: I had a baaaad reaction to SPAM on ActiveRain - 02/15/09 12:41 AM
I had a horrible reaction to SPAM on ActiveRain about a week ago and Bob Stewart laughed...

spam: Who decides what is SPAM? - 10/15/08 12:44 AM
Who get's to decide what is SPAM? Sender or Receiver?
In your mailbox?
In the comments on your blog?
I got a SPAM email from a contractor with delusions of grandeur.  He is a contractor for "wet basements" and he wrote a book about Wet Basements...  "Wet basements" are big business in Central Ohio...  It's been awhile since I've visited his website but he calls himself "the Basement Guru" in the comment he left.  As I recall he uses an S symbol on his website... I think the "S" is for "Super" like in "Super Dry Basement" .... I believe that … (19 comments)

spam: SPAMMED? - 09/17/08 12:11 AM
Do you think the ActiveRain guideline to not promote yourself includes NOT advertising your brand or brokerage on another members blog?
From the ActiveRain Guidelines:
Respect the ActiveRain Community
Being a part of any community requires a certain level of trust. Don't abuse the site or your fellow members. By joining the ActiveRain community you are given a platform to present your ideas and opinions to a large number of people. We trust you to be responsible with that platform; thousands of other ActiveRain members are also counting on your trustworthiness.

spam: I was nearly kicked off of a social network for link spamming - 09/16/08 12:22 AM
Have I ever mentioned  I was nearly kicked off a social network for "link spam"?
True Confession  I ran into the concept of "Link Farm Spamming" on ActiveRain in a comment on Rich Jacobson's post recently. Rich's post "Is Your Integrity Worth 25 Points?" - Blog Tips for Rain Drips  is Members Only so I can only say sooooooo much.  The commenter pointed out what she considers "Link Farm Spam" to me.  It is a list of links.  Just links.
Do you know "link spam " when you see it? Is "link spam" subjective? or black and white?

spam: We are not all created equal - 09/12/08 11:02 PM
We are not all created equal when it comes to email spam.
"Summary of junk emails blocked - 579 Junk Emails Blocked"
That's one days blocked spam in ONE mailbox.... that is usually about what is in it each day... 400 to 600... then there are those CraZy spam days... that does not count the replica watch emails, the Viagra ads, etc. that slip through for some reason.  Or the broadcast emails from local builders, lenders etc.  I have NO time to read that stuff because I get so much spam.
