The packages are wrapped (hopefully!) the garland is strung, the cookies are made and the last couple of days before Christmas stretch before you. This might be a great time to plan some special holiday oriented outings.
Of course, one of the most well known is the National Christmas Tree on the Elipse. Located on the Elipse, in front of the white house, this is a visit that everyone in the area should make at least one--and even annually!

Lake Anne Plaza in Reston, Virginia will be the location of Santa's arrival by boat on Saturday, December 4, 2010.
The festivities begin at 11 a.m. and will include a variety of activities as part of the 'Jingle on Lake Anne - A Holiday Event Celebration.'  Strolling carolers, a petting zoo, wine tasting, merchant specials, a gingerbread house decorating contest, cookie decorating, holiday arts and craft market, holiday entertainment and much more.
Stop by the Reston Museum and buy gifts from local artists and to see some of the special exhibits at the museum.

One of my favorite local events is the annual Greater Reston Arts Center Collector's Choice Exhitbition and Raffle. This is a really exciting event for art lovers and collectors of all levels and experience. This year the event will take place on Sunday, September 19, 2010.Each participant purchases a ticket for $150. Every participating artist donates a piece of  artwork which is assigned a number.  On the day of the event, which is held at the Reston Town Center under a tent in front of GRACE,everyone who has purchased a ticket gathers with their prioritized list. Last night was the kick-off of the annual Herndon Festival in Herndon, Virginia. Although the evening started out with a thunderstorm, all was not lost as the clouds, thunder and lightning made it through by about 6:00 pm.
 
It is a great way to reconnect with your community through a good, old fashioned family festival. Rides, games, prizes, vendors, food, entertainment...what more could you want? There are three stages with entertainment, Fireworks on Thursday night (if you heard banging last night, now you know what it was) and Saturday night, 10K and 5K races and much, much more!

Today is the 2nd annual Earthday@Loudoun Family Festival. It is being held at the Clyde's at Willow Farm in Ashburn , Virginia. The event includes food, music, vendors of all types and a chance to find out what is going on in the community.

One of the most beautiful times of the year in Washington D.C. is the emergence of the Cherry Blossoms around the Tidal Basin. Luckily, when it comes to buying a home, not everyone is looking for the same thing. Someone who is looking for acreage, is probably less likely to be concerned about finding a very involved neighborhood association. One of my favorite local events is the annual Herndon Festival in Herndon, Virginia.  This year the festival runs from Thursday, May 28th at 6:00 pm  through Sunday, May 31st at 6:00 pm.
If you have never had an opportunity to go to the festival, you are in for a real treat. This is a community festival like the kind you remember from your childhood.
