Is the classic agent compensation model based on percentages and "fly now, pay later" representation flawed?  How badly? 
To the extent of: "Your Money Back in 90 Days if You are Not Delighted?" 
 Of course, maintaining agent compensation while reducing consumer risks and/or costs is the driving angle, as it is all through the industry in the current climate. 
But, reduction of risk to consumers has to have some financial support.  The classic model, with payment upon closing of a transaction removes significant financial risk.  But someone has to subsidize the venue.  Failed deals still carry a cost … (6 comments)

I love reading Seth Godin's stuff!  If you think you are in a profession that is dependent upon good marketing, you should be reading it too. 
Seth spells it out in plain English, conversationally, and almost always it seems he is dead on target.
Last week in his blog, in a post, "Where have all the agents gone?" Seth says, "The best ones provide a differentiated service that is worth paying for," when discussing travel agents.  Might as well be real estate agents.  Dead on for us too.
