real estate: What do You Fear? - 09/21/22 12:32 PM
One has to overcome MANY fears just to be a Realtor or for any type of salesperson for that manor. Like Philemon there may be days where we are starving, breaking into commissioned sales is rarely easy. The good news is people very rarely die of simply being a sales person.
Philemon doesn't want to cry, who does, but crying is not something we need fear, sometimes a good cry is good for the soul. Good news, the longer you are in Real Estate the less you cry.
So what do Realtors fear? Yesterday we learned they fear their Supra locks not reporting … (10 comments)

real estate: One Minot Brokerage's Unique Way to Handle Showings Today - 04/10/20 12:57 PM

real estate: Being A Realtor & A Notary - 11/17/19 06:34 PM
It was in my first year as a Realtor that I recognized the value of becoming a Notary Public. My original intention was to be able to close mobile home sales. Shortly there after I started closing on line loans (which lead to many new clients over the years).
To close online loans many lenders required I join The National Notary Association. The NNA has training and testing on how to be a Mobile Notary and being a loan closer. The NNA also requires a background check, E&O insurance, bonding, and more. The NNA has a substantial support system I love (not at … (8 comments)

real estate: Minot's Lenders Deserve My Kudos - 01/31/19 02:11 PM
During my years as a Realtor no outside institution deserved kudos more then the established lenders in Minot ND. Stepping up to Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland , challenge for January I just have to give a high 5 to ALL of Minot's lending institutions. Everyone I've worked with has been Golden!Only one in 16 years has been unprofessional and their stint here was short lived and they are long gone.
I never did really develop a "favorite" because they really were all "that" good.
If a Real Estate Buyer would ask  for a recommendation, instead of naming an institution I would recommend they try one bank, … (3 comments)

real estate: Green Water is NOT Pretty and it is NOT Safe Either. - 07/25/18 06:46 PM

By this time of year it's typical to see algae on most bodies of water in North Dakota. Some algae is dangerous and if you are like me you may not have a clue as to if the algae you see is dangerous or not. I took the picture below on a fishing dock on the Mouse River in Minot. Even though the water is flowing pretty well at this time there is plenty of algae and on any standing ponds in the City the water is absolutely covered like a thick pea soup. This water could be deadly to humans and pets. … (10 comments)

real estate: What's Happening In Minot Friday 05/18/2018 - 05/17/18 12:27 PM

Taking these one at a time:
Who doesn't like a rummage sale? I'm in! I'll have to find out who the Trinity Lifesavers are because that sounds like a good interview for my radio show Minot Real Estate Today.
Endangered Species Day at the Roosevelt Park Zoo. That fits in perfectly with Fridays radio program because my guest is Becky DeWits, the zoo director. Please listen in.
I don't know anything about the May Vender Show at Dakota Square Mall. Maybe it's all about my friend Alan May vending something???
Gymagic Play Date is all about gymnastics and believe it or not I was a very good … (4 comments)

real estate: It's THAT Spring Day Again - Volunteering at KHRT - 03/26/18 06:43 AM

This is one of my favorite days of the year, helping out with our Christian Radio's Spring fundraiser (Sharathon). They have a Spring and Fall Sharathon which helps them meet their expenses, making up for not having any advertising of alcohol, gambling, and the like. The last couple of years have been a little lean with the decline of the oil boom BUT the generosity of the KHRT listeners is always amazing.
I try to volunteer at least one day of each of the two 5 day events and in addition to answering the phones they let me share on the air as … (8 comments)

Today is March 20th 2018 and it's the first day of Spring. A fresh blanket of snow is on the ground (some areas of ND received over a foot of snow today) but Spring will come to North Dakota.... eventually. If you have the mindset to list your house in the Spring... SURPRISE... Spring is here.

real estate: Happy Anniversary, My Home Was Re-Born 6 Years Ago Today - 02/25/18 01:39 PM

6 Years ago today my family and I moved back into our newly renovated home. While the contractor was finished with the home there was still a lot of work yet to be completed. Not the least of which was reseeding the lawn.
It truly was a joyous day 6 years ago and by all means I can easily equate it to anyone purchasing a brand new or a previously owned home.
While we did not hunt for a location for our "renewed" home every other aspect of having a home custom built was the same. We chose a contractor, Krema Designs, who I … (18 comments)

real estate: Meet the Contractors... but Don't Be Razzle Dazzled. - 02/13/18 05:29 PM

I am posting this for those of my readers that have a Menard's store in their community. The Menard's store here in Minot ND is much more popular than The Home Depot but if you are new to the community and used to shopping at Home Depot you may not be aware of this up coming event.
I think this is a great idea but regretfully it's usually poorly attended by the public and/or by contractors.
My word of caution to anyone who does go is to ask any contractor you may consider working with if they are currently licensed in the State … (2 comments)

real estate: What is a Quartz Countertop? - 02/12/18 05:15 PM

Even as an experienced Real Estate Agent it's hard to keep up with trends and to know everything there is to know about building materials.
Lately I've been educating myself on the subject of counter tops. Most everyone is familiar with Formica and Granite but what exactly is Quartz?
The builder I work for uses Quartz so it's important information for me to know. I did learn a few surprises in this quest for knowledge, such as did you know it can come in a slab (natural) like Granite but most of it is manufactured using ground quarts and an epoxy that is even … (13 comments)

real estate: New Construction Does NOT Mean Quality Construction - 02/12/18 04:32 PM

A new construction home in Minot North Dakota may be priced as low as $120.00 per square foot to above $230.00 per square foot.
New construction does NOT necessarily mean QUALITY construction as many learned who purchased homes in NE Minot that have now been found to have structural issues and as it's also been revealed were never inspected by City inspectors.
The homes at Highlands at North Hill, built by R - Squared Construction are fairly priced around $150.00 per square foot and built with the highest quality of any homes in town.
Our homes have Quartz Kitchen counter tops, … (0 comments)

real estate: Love, Gus and Jane - 02/10/18 02:08 PM

Gus and Jane, a Love Story I will never forget.
I don't remember exactly how I met Gus and Jane but I'm guessing it was probably on desk duty about 15 years ago but I assure you I will never forget them.
Gus was a retired Sargent from the Minot Air Force Base, long retired! They lived in a very modest home that they both had tremendous pride in. The home had a lot of memories inside so it was a tight walk through but it was also spotlessly clean. Gus and Jane showed me each room explaining how they used it and what … (22 comments)
