Homemade Halloween Costume - How To Make A Dinosaur Costume
My three year old grandson, Jack, wants to be a dinosaur for Halloween...not just any dinosaur, Jack wants to be a Spinosaurus.
I looked online for ideas, but all I could find were cutesy dinosaurs... sew some triangles down the back of a hoodie and add a tail to the bottom.  Jack doesn't want to be "cute"... Jack wants to be scary.
I LOVE creating Halloween costumes and was excited to take on the challenge.  A couple of people online suggested using foam to create a dinosaur head...so  I bought a 46 x 70 piece of 1 1/4" foam … (128 comments)

making your own costume: Homemade Halloween Costume - Thomas The Train - 10/28/11 01:50 PM
Homemade Thomas The Train Costume
I've made a lot of Halloween costumes over the years, but it's been awhile.  Time to start creating for a new generation.
In my recent post on homemade Halloween costumes, I promised an update when my grandson Zack's costume was done.
Thomas The Train was completed just in time for Zack's train-themed birthday party.

If you want to make your own Thomas The Train costume...I found my inspiration online from a blog called Mother Maker which has great step-by-step instructions.
I made a few small changes, but for the most part followed their directions.
I used mostly items I had, so it … (21 comments)

making your own costume: Halloween Coffins To DIE For - More Homemade Costumes - 10/21/11 04:44 AM
It's not Halloween without a corpse or two!  If that corpse is in a coffin, even better!  Years ago I created some coffins for a Halloween costume.  They were not that hard to make and lots of fun to wear!  They got ruined spending a winter in a storage unit, otherwise I would still have them.  I'm sure I will make more some day.

My daughter Jaime, my aunt, and I were the three "Stages of Death"
Jaime was the recently deceased, my aunt the decaying corpse, and I was the skeletal remains.

My husband and I wore the coffins as decaying corpse and skeleton … (18 comments)

making your own costume: NH Home Stager Ideas For Homemade Halloween Costumes - 10/20/11 01:27 AM
Making your own Halloween costumes isn't as hard as you think.  I've had years of experience and loved every minute of it!  I've shared posts on costumes before, but it's been a couple of years so...here we go again....

Animal Costumes
Whether for a child or an adult, animal costumes are really simple if you start with footy pj's or sweats and add the details....tail, ears, face makeup.
The lion costume was made using footy pjs and adding a snap on belly, snap on tail, and paws made from felt. The mane is yarn sewn in rows on a knit cap. (the kind of cap that covers … (25 comments)

This was pretty easy...clothes, makeup, and hair had to be identical.
The hardest part was making the guitars using foam board and black electrical tape.

making your own costume: Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas - Part 2: Think Out Of The Box - 10/13/09 02:51 AM
Fall is my favorite season, and Halloween is my favorite holiday.   I really love making costumes, and the more creative, the better.  For the next couple of days I will be sharing some homemade costumes I've made in the past.  If you are looking for costume ideas this year, I hope my posts will inspire you!

Part 2:  Think Out Of The Box

One of my favorite costumes was this Rabbit In A Hat.
The hat was created by first making the rim
from cardboard and covering it with fabric.  Then
I attached the fabric that formed the hat, using
a hula hoop sewed into the hem to weigh it down.
The hat … (25 comments)

Making homemade costumes isn't really that hard.  The great part about sewing costumes is they don't have to be perfect and you don't need a lot of sewing experience.  There are some very basic patterns that even beginners can understand and work with.

making your own costume: Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas - Think Out of the Box This Year - 10/06/08 06:42 AM
Over the years I have made my share of Halloween costumes and many of them have been pretty creative.
There are plenty of great costumes available at the stores, but if you really want to make some memories, try making your own or making costumes for your kids.  It can be so much fun!

Animal costumes are always popular and you
can get a simple pattern that will enable you

Depending on the shape of the ears, type of
tail and choice of fabric, one pattern can go a
