gettysburggerry: Tax Credit Deadline Extended - Flood Insurance Reinstated - 07/01/10 06:02 AM
Tax Credit Deadline Extended - Flood Insureance ReinstatedTwo big items to report this morning. First, Congress has passed the bill extending the Homebuyer Tax Credit out to September 30, 2010. Contracts that were ratified by the April 30, 2010 deadline will now have until the September date to close. While the NAR is claiming this as a big win for Realtors, I don't agree. It may be a big win for Realtors, but I feel it is a big loss for the Real Estate Market, it just continues the governments presence in the market, and prohibits the market from recovering naturally. … (2 comments)

gettysburggerry: Monday's with Jim Rohn - 06/28/10 04:12 AM
Monday's with Jim Rohn"The greatest form of maturity is at harvest time. That is when we must learn how to reap without complaint if the amounts are small and how to reap without apology if the amounts are big."

Was this guy a fortune teller of what? No I don't think so, but I do believe Mr. Rohn had a clear and unobstructed view of the world of business in what ever form it may be practiced. Having a grasp of  how business works at it's core is a great gift, and Jim Rohn had as strong and clear a … (4 comments)

gettysburggerry: National Housing Numbers - Market Still a Thrill Ride - 06/23/10 08:53 AM
National Housing Numbers - Market Still a Thrill RideThis week two sets of numbers for the National Housing Market came out, and it appears we are still on a roller coaster. The first numbers to come out this week were existing home sales, which were not good. According to the National Association of Realtors not only did we not the expected 5.2% increase in existing home sales for May, but we experienced a 2.2% decrease. This comes on the heals of a nice 8% jump in April. Two factors that are causing problems are the June 30 deadline to close for … (7 comments)

gettysburggerry: Building a Bamboo Bike Yeah Really - 06/23/10 01:23 AM

Building a Bamboo Bike Yeah Really Tucked away in a quiet little studio in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn NY is the Bamboo bike studio. Yeah you heard correct, that is Bamboo bike. The studio boasts a mellow, friendly atmosphere where creating a green, cheap, durable bike from renewable bamboo material is the order of the weekend. You see over the course of a weekend bike builders can turn seven pieces of bamboo into a bike frame, and then use material to lash the frame together. The result is a sturdy bike that can stand up to dirt paths … (13 comments)

gettysburggerry: Adams County Home Stats by School District - 06/22/10 12:09 AM

The information shown in the two charts above shows pretty consistent median home prices except for two area showing major changes and one school district showing significant changes.
Bermudian Springs shows a whopping 21% increase in the median home price, and Fairfield shows a 20% decrease in the median home price. Gettysburg as well shows an 11% decrease as well, not as dramatic as Fairfield, however 11% is nothing to sneeze at.
Information like this gives the homeowner some real perspective as what that particular market is doing, and what it has done. When buyers and the Realtors that are representing … (1 comments)

gettysburggerry: Gettysburg Pa Celebrates Flag Day - Pa has Close Ties to Flag Day - 06/14/10 06:42 AM
Gettysburg Pa Celebrates Flag Day - Pa has Close Ties to Flag DayFlag Day is celebrated on June 14th and commemorates the adoption of the flag on the United States. What is amazing that the resolution deeming it so was passed way back in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. Woodrow Wilson issued the proclamation that officially established June 14th as Flag Day in August of 1949. While Flag is not a federal holiday such as Memorial Day or July 4th, there is one state (and the only one) that has made Flag Day an official State Holiday. My home state … (6 comments)

Monday's with Jim Rohn"The greatest definition for concentration I ever heard is, Wherever you are, Be There!"If this doesn't apply to todays world, I don't know what does. I find more and more that business people I talk with are constantly interrupted by phones, emails, tweets, you name it. But as professionals we need to control   these interruptions, and continue to provide our clients with undivided attention, and ultimate customer service. I don't know about you, but it irkes me when  I am with someone and in mid sentence they take a phone call, or check for a tweet or … (8 comments)

gettysburggerry: Hot Rod Parade in Downtown York Pa - 06/05/10 05:55 AM
Hot Rod Parade in Downtown York PaWhile on a local business trip to downtown York Pa I was pleasantly surprised by a Hot Rod parade in downtown York Pa. It was actually kind of funny, as I was driving into town I definitley noticed the police presence coming into town, and I didn't understand the all the people sitting in chairs along the side of the rode. Now this went on for some time, not just a two or three block section, all the way through town. I am such a dork, here I am driving right by the fair grounds … (8 comments)

gettysburggerry: Gettysburg Celebrates Memorial Day - 05/31/10 12:42 PM
Gettysburg Pa Celebrates Memorial Day
The weather for the annual Gettysburg Memorial Day Parade could not have been better. While honoring our Veterans, Gettysburg Pa sure knows how to celebrate as well. What was wonderful was the spontaneous applause that erupted any time a Veteran went by, it is a pleasure to live in a community that goes the extra mile. Gettysburg Pa has the distinction of remaining a small town, but what happened here for three days 1863 it gives just a little more focused footnote to our countries historical background. I am sure it is the same with any … (4 comments)
