If you don't yet have a copy of "The Cat Lover's Book of Days," you should head on over to Peg Silloway's web site and order one right now. She'll even autograph it with the message of your choice. We got a copy for our household just before Christmas, and I've been reading the entry for each day. Today's entry, January 4, has the quote that I used for the title of this post. It's funny and appropriate because during the winter days, we keep the door to our home office closed, as you see in the upper right photo. However, it's not latched, and Zoey the Cool Cat knows how to pull it open, as she is doing. Unfortunately, during the evening, she likes to come in and go out every five mintues. We always know when the door is open because the cold air from the rest of the house rushes into our warm home office. We do get a lot of exercise getting up and down to close the door each time she comes and goes.

Jim: Mollie the Cat is just sitting here cheering your Zoey the Cool Cat. Of course cats like to change their minds. One of my Mollie's quirks is that she will NOT... drink water unless it is dripping fresh out of the kitchen sink faucet. If somehow before going to bed, I forget, and turn the faucet off... sooner or later I will be awakened by a distinct WAILING sound. Miss Mollie T is thirsty... and "someone" forgot to leave the water dripping for her. How thoughtless of me.
By the way...Mollie T says... what in the world do you mean "If you own a cat, or have owned a cat in the past, please leave a picture of IT." IT ??? You silly person. Mollie T says she would very much make sure that Zoey the Cool Cat does not see you calling her and her brothers and sisters an IT... in this post.
Also... "if you OWN a cat ?" My friend, you should know... dogs have owners, cats have "staff."
Now that is one busy kitty! I got my mom a kitten from a farmer client of mine, to keep her company. They have become fast friends!
Jasmine will walk by a door that is ajar for days, but if you close it...she is trying to open it to get inside...and yes...if the water bowl is not absolutely fresh, I will hear about it loudly.
It sounds like you need to lock that door! Zoey is one clever kitty to be sure!
;)
Jim,
I enjoyed the title and seeing Zoey the cat in action through the photos. Have a great day!
One of our cats, Roux, is an accomplished door opener. He has figured out how to open every single cabinet and closet door in our home. Our other 2 cats just watch him until Roux has opened a cabinet door and then they jump in first!
Jim, "your" Zoey is very clever. (As Karen pointed out, you belong to Zoey and not the other way around!) I'm glad you're enjoying The Cat Lover's Book of Days. Soon you'll get to the page that may have your solution, courtesy of Sir Isaac Newton - he invented the cat flap when his feline friend kept opening the door and ruining his light experiments!
Jim...Cats are certainly entertaining. I know what you mean about getting up to let them in or out every few minutes. Our cat Bubba truly does rule the house....how did that happen?
My husband stays up a lot later than I do, and the TV bothers me, but I can't shut the bedroom door all the way because our cats paw and meow till I open it. Oh, well.
Hey, Jim. All I know is that we are not allowed to leave inside doors closed or outside doors open. Thanks for sharing, Jim
Thank you for the post Jim. Your cats are always so interesting as well as your posts.
Hi Jim-
Our son, Jon's, orange tabby (Tiger from the SPCA, or "cat store" as the kids called it), could jump up and catch the door knob at an angle, simultaneously unlatching it and pulling it open. He was such a Houdini that he could even open the slider!
Tiger has been gone for about 4 years and we still miss him.

That's a pretty talented cat you have, Jim! Maybe I have more in common with cats than I thought . . .
This sounds like an interesting book! Zoey is just teaching you how to leave a door open because you keep closing it!
I'm not even gonna show my cat those photos !!! He can be very persistant when he wants something !
Great pictures and so right about leaving the door open, mine whines letting you know that she doesn't like it.
Very considerate cat you guys have there Jim. Not everyone can say that their cat knows to give their owners exercise when needed.
Hey, Karen - It's not nice to be thoughtless when those little kitties are involved. And you are so correct about my poor choice of words. LOL
Hey, Janna - Zoey the Cool Cat is only three, so we expect many more years of a busy kitty.
Hey, Bill - I wonder what it is that cats need to know what's behind a closed door.
Hey, Betina - If we close it so that it latches, she starts howling.
Hey, Gerry - Thanks for stopping by.
Hey, Irene - So we know which cat is the leader in your house!
Hey, Peg - I saw that about Isaac Newton. January 4.
Hey, Carra - Sometime in history, cats found out how to control us, and that gene was a dominant one.
Hey, Leslie - Sounds like earplugs are in order. LOL
Hey, Jim - That's a good way to put it.
Hey, Dana - Thanks, and thanks for stopping by.
Hey, Sara - Tiger sounds like a fun cat. So many great pets can be found at the "cat store."
Hey, Deena - Now we just need to learn out to be talented like our cats.
Hey, Al and Peggy - If you like cats, you need "The Cat Lover's Book of Days."
Hey, Janice - She minds, but only if we get too close. That's where zoom lenses coming in handy.
Hey, Michael - You're not going to share with your cat? How dastardly and selfish!
Hey, Charles - I'm not sure there's a more pitiful noise in the world than a cat whining.
Hey, Jack - Looking at the bright side does help!
