Power Lines

Summer is almost over, but we are still experiencing some good rainfall and high temperatures across the country.    Water activities and the heat of August go hand in hand!     Water and electricity do not!   Here are some safety tips to continue and enjoy summer activities to keep you safe -

  • Never mix water and electricity!
  • Keep all boating equipment, including the mast 10-feet away from overhead power lines.
  • While it does not happen often, summer storms can topple power lines.   Always assume these lines are live and very dangerous.   Do not touch the lines, or entRain Stormser any water puddles close to the these lines.
  • If you experience flooding in or around your home, be cautious around outlets and cords.   These submerged outlets or cords could be energized and deadly.
  • Be sure your outside outlets are covered and keep cords and electrical devices away from swimming pools or ponds.
  • Use ground fault current interrupter (GFCI) to help prevent electrocutions or shock injuries.  Portable GFCIs are inexpensive and require no tools to install.

STAY SAFE, and be careful with water & electricity!

Joan, You'd think that you wouldn't have to remind people of some of this but I'm often surprised at some of the accidents I hear about.

Janet - I see articles about this all the time, so the media must think due to accidents happening, the reminders need to be put out there!

Adam - thx for reading!

We rarely get rain or lightening.  Most of the major strip pools will close if there is lightening in the valley for 45 minutes!  Great tips!
