Yesterday I made a call to a past client, due to forgetting his wife's birthday, and to wish a belated Happy Birthday! They are in their mid-20's and just got married a year ago. They bought a townhome through HUD that needed a lot of work, since there was water damage prior to foreclosure. This property had no drywall ceiling, and all the flooring had been removed. Even some of the drywall near the floor had been cut out due to damage from water. This was the property this young couple wrote on! They were so excited to get into their first property! After closing, they did a great job with all the repairs, and you would never know it was a HUD!
I met this young man 10+ years ago, with his family all in the HVAC business, and many times using him for my clients' furnaces, as well as my own personal furnace and A/C. When he turned 21, he decided to open his own HVAC company, and be his own boss! Things were going pretty well!
Now, you probably are wondering WHERE THIS POST IS GOING....he told me that he had to take a job to make sure his house payment got paid. Business has slowed down, and the bills keep rolling in. He said he will not give up, as his dream to own his own company is just on hold, not forgotten!
It was a heart-felt conversation, due to his desire to be the entrepreneur, and still is his dream, but NOT to lose his house, and everything they had worked for! I was so proud of this young couple, to have the power to control their spending, and NOT walk away from their house, their responsibility, and meet it head on! They said even starting their family will need to be set back a year or two.
He has not forgotten his dream - it is just on hold for now! They have the keys to success! We do have control over our credit - take action, and take care of it, we are the ones that can! With so many older families walking away, willing to give up, this young couple just made me smile!
