Ahhhhh the Life of A Broker During the Holiday Season - 31 Days of Holiday Fun Continues!

Ok, I thought the post I wrote the other day "The Antlers are on the Way" was pretty hilarious but I've got that one topped.  You're not going to believe what went on before 9:00 AM- guaranteed!  Just try to top this one!!  I dare you!  Double dare you!  In fact I'll send you a set of Antlers for your car if you can!

Before 7:00 am I wrote an offer on a home, got it sent to the agent and asked for her to let me know she got my email as I'd be out most of the day.  Ok good, she got it and thought the offer should be good to go. Great.

Next. Took quick shower and got ready for 8:00 meeting. Check.  Decided to check my emails one last time before I rushed out the door.  Our CPA emailed the details of the final tax return for a corporation we're dissolving (yeah).  She goes into detail and then says.......drum roll.........By the way you're going to have $332, 540 in capital gains passed thru to your personal return.   HUH?  That is so far out there it couldn't possible be remotely right.  I started laughing - seriously - I really did.  I trusted that they had made some big time error.  I write back real quick not thinking they'd be there yet.  She says again - nope - and this is why there is a gain. Naaaaa couldn't be, check with our attorney!  No I suppose she thought I should be worried but I laughed it off knowing it couldn't be real (or could it - was I totally nuts?).

Next.  Gather up my door prizes etc for meeting and rush out to the garage.  Guess what?  Come on take a wild quess.  No cheating....this is all for fun, right!!   The garage door quit working! Oh great, now what? I text one of my agents who lives close by as I knew he was going to same meeting. No luck - then I remembered he was at an earlier meeting. Shoot!  Hopefully I can get a hold of my husband (who's always in meetings) and he'll have an idea.  Yeah - he answered on the 1st ring!  Darling....how can I get the garage door open?  Of course he's thinking - what is she talking about it was fine an hour or so ago!!  Anyway he's says pull the long red cord and that will release the door and you should be able to pull it up. Ok thanks - bye.

Next. I pull the long red cord and sure enough the door goes up fairly easy - BUT - it wouldn't stay up. Now what?  I look around thinking what the heck can I prop the door up with and not have it fall down on my new car (that would be a real bummer).  Are you getting a McGver feel here?  Finally I spot a long wood pole that should do the trick. Oh good that worked. Quickly jump in the car and start to back out - and then guess what happens?  Come on quess again.......  Ok did you figure it out?  Good!  All went just fine!! I got rid of the pole, got the door down and went back in house to make sure the alarm was on. Whew!  By that point I was getting a little warm as it all happened in a matter of minutes.

Next. I'm in my car, relaxing to Christmas music and thinking - aren't I cool!!  All this stuff in a hour or so and I'll only be a few minutes late. Whew!  My lucky day for sure!!  Ha. Not so fast chicky dee!

Next.I'm Driving for about 5 minutes and notice a big backup about 3 blocks away.   I get a little closer and notice that it's seemingly getting worse.  Oh Sh********.  Not sure there's a way out of this one. Darn!  Wait, wait I see an opening and I quickly take it and go left.  Not sure exactly how far I'll have to go north to go around the accident but it was better than being stuck for an hour in traffic.

Next. I'm calmly following other cars thru an interesting neighborhood (that's the REALTOR in me talking). I'm sure everybody else was thinking about getting to work on time and not looking at houses and landscaping and Christmas decorations!!   You know the old saying - Be in the Moment - right?  Well I was so far practicing this one real well this morning, don't you think?

Next.  Keep in mind this was all before 8:30!  I made it to the meeting 5 minutes late, had a wonderful time at the holiday meeting and then rushed back to office for a quick hour to catch up on work stuff.  I then rushed off to the next holiday party for Women's Council of REALTORS.  One of our agents was getting installed as the new Vice Chair of Membership so I really wanted to be there for that special event. Had a lovely relaxing time - not thinking or worried about anything going on back at the office.

Next.  Check my voice mails and sure enough the CPA left a message and said ........can you guess this one?  I'm sure you can......come on I'm not going to tell you the end just yet.  I wouldn't be a good elf if I let all the secrets out. Elves are good at keeping secrets.

The rest of the day to follow later.....it's only 3:00 and now I must must must get back to work!

Loved chatting with you! I am exhausted reading about your day but laughing out loud. Haha..and only five minutes late. Reminds me of the day I wrote a check to the IRS for $45,000 instead of $4500. I was able to stop payment and reissue...but not before they tried to cash it.

Enjoy the rest of your day and get back to work.

Boy...after all that I sure hope your CPA said "Ooops!  My mistake..."  My day yesterday was kind of similar (minus the $322K sticker shock)...suppose it's in the weather?  :D

You're right, I cannot possibly top that.  Your writing is so filled with events, I find myself reading really fast!  I'm guessing the Accountant is wrong...or hoping.  Although I think the capital gain tax goes up in 2011 so either way; better to take it now....

Banana- I'm going to look for the next installment now... you've got me on the edge of my seat!

Don't you just LOVE the "pass-through" income.  Good thing we can get taxed on money we never actually had.  I wonder if they'd notice if we wrote off a "business trip" we never took?  hmmmm.....

Melisa - it years of training to not get wacked over the small stuff.....it always seems to work out whether I react or not.

Hey Little Ms Santa - I love your picture BTW!  It was a simple (well that might be an understatment lol).  I knew it had to be it was just so outrageous for such a small deal.

Kathy - and that was just till 3:30!  Got busier after 5 but it was fun stuff.

Michelle - those elves aren't quite so busy today......whew!

Jennifer.....it's all good! See above Ms Santa!  Pass-through has always been kind of a funny thing to call it.  Just sounds illusive because it is.  It exists but really doens't exist so just pretend it doens't and it won't exist so there are no issues, got it. HUh?  Did I just say that!!!!!

Goodness- you are not slowing down one bit in December. That is probably why you are so successful. I, too am tired just reading all of your morning activity. Same thing happened to my garage once but the spring was broken and pulling the red cord didn't help. Luckily for me, I parked in the driveway that day.

Hey Chanda Panda - good to see you!  I was relieved to learn I had it correct. And had it been true that would have been interesting and we'd have known it!

Hi Kristi - December is normally quite busy with parties, clients fun, elving and enjoying all the simple things of life.  This morning we took a spa and it's just so gorgeous here in Phoenix.  Lovely Day!

Irene- actually it wasn't exhausting at all.  Kind of like - ok - next - and not putting any emotion on any of it.  Tis what is and do the best you can!
