2010 - Out with the Old, In with the New
I was listening to Matchbox 20 today, having a little quiet time this first day of 2011.
I’m optimistic for this year – I can’t help it. Every time I watch the balloon drop I remember my mother’s paraphrase as I was growing up: “Out with the old, in with the new.”.
I spent much of today putting away gifts from under the tree, replacing other items seldom used, outgrown, etc, and filling the local Veteran’s Bags that the Relief Truck will pick up in our neighborhood on Tuesday. I’m a big proponent of “out with the old, in with the new”. I watch those shows on hoarding and think how sad it would be to not be able to let go of “stuff”. I've moved many times, too, and I think that helps me to not collect more than I can keep in my closets and garage shelves. I notice many of my neighbors cannot park their cars in their garages because of their storage needs. (Realize, too, that few homes in Tucson vicinity have attics or basements!!)
We all need to let go of “stuff”.
Maybe some of us need to let go of 2010.
Matchbox 20 summed it up nicely in their chorus of “Hard Times”:
According to the law of attraction, like attracts like.
Let's be optimistic for 2011 together.
