Are You Missing Opportunities?

Education & Training with MarQeteer

FSBOResidential real estate is perhaps the most unique of all sales arenas.  Sales trainers have said for decades that "opportunity is all around you."  That has varying degrees of truth, depending on what it is that you're selling.

With real estate, though, it's especially true because everyone needs a place to live.  This can sometimes be forgotten as we miss opportunities to make new contacts while we're going about our own business.  Especially in this economy, it's important to be mentally prepared for those opportunities that arise when you least expect it.

I'm reminded of a conversation a couple of years back with one of my favorite real estate trainers Sandy Coyer, a regional trainer with Keller Williams in Charlotte, NC.  She related this story to me that I just love.

Do you have the nerve to do something like this?

Here's the story.  She was in Home Depot standing in the checkout line and the gentlemen in front of her was buying a "For Sale By Owner" sign (around 2 or 3 dollars cost).   She told him, "Excuse me...I'll buy that sign for you if you'll let me list your home if it hasn't sold in 30 days."  The man said "Oh, you must be a real estate agent."

Everyone in the entire line got dead silent (which would scare the you-know-what out of many agents).

"Yes, I am," she said and gave him her card.

Well, she bought him the sign and he called her in 30 days when his house hadn't sold.  The bad news was he had to take his house off the market for personal health reasons.  The good news was he had a relative who was selling and Sandy got the listing...because she had the nerve to initiate contact with a total stranger.

Do you have the level of confidence to do something like this?  Don't wait for people to come to you.  You have to reach out.

And by all means, don't be afraid.  Have FUN with it!  You have the best job in the set your own hours and work with people:)

What an awesome example of paying attention.  I think we forget to look for the opportunities that present themselves each and every day.  Thank you for sharing that on a Monday.  I will be looking for opportunities all week long!
