The changing look of Harding University Searcy Arkansas. New apartments going up.

What a surprising look there is in the new apartments being built by Harding University in Searcy Arkansas.  All the other buildings on campus are the staid and trustworthy look of red brick.  Now we are getting YELLOW buildings with a new look.

New apartments Searcy Ar

Look at this big impressive yellow building.

Park Street Searcy AR

Notice the road is closed.  That road used to be East Park Avenue.  And look at the big yellow apartment houses.

Harding University apartments

I was stunned when I first discovered the new look.  I have to admit they are very attractive and have more of a village look.  I think they are to be for married students and they appear to be rushing to get them completed.  I did a blog about the disappearing houses not long ago.  Go back and visit this blog and be sure to read the comments.  Don Thompson gave some great historic photos and maps on the blog. ....And be prepared to be sorta lost when you come back to visit around the Harding campus!

It's always exciting when new buildings go up in a community.  I will say however, I still like those older brick buildings too.  There's something timeless about many of them!

Believe it or not, I actually approve of the yellow color for the apts.  AND, if they are making a little village like The Village at Hendrix (College), I approve of that, too.

Myrl, these are especially nice looking buildings.  You and your camera would have a field day.

Mary, just don't expect the Harding area to be the same.

Anita, be sure to drive by when you come back to Searcy.  I am not familiar with the village at Hendrix.

Barbara, go to Google and type in The Village, Hendrix College, Conway, Ark. and then play around with some of the websites.  You'll find the houses....they are wonderful....I'd live there in a N.Y. minute if I could afford to.  it's designed to be like a European village:  shops, grocs. for fresh foods, bakery...where you just go out every morning and buy what you want for the day.

Anita, I went to Hendrix but landed in the middle of the football field.  Give me better directions or put Don on the job of showing us.

The exterior of each building will be painted a different color.  However, the siding before paint is indeed yellow.  FYI

I have to admit that the new apartments are looking nice.

Yes, put Mr. Don on the job of showing us the villiage...it sounds like a nice idea.

Glenn, can you tell us more about the apartments?  The plans, etc.  What kind of siding is on the structures?

Debbie, Mr. Don may be out traveling again but he needs to check in!

Barbara, I think you must have typed in the information Anita sent into Google Maps.  If you put it into the search box for plain Google.com, the Village information comes up.

Hello from California.

I found the address 1600 Washington Ave Hendrix College, Conway, AR 72032 but The Google Man doesn't travel that street or any of them around Hendrix College. Maybe there's a privacy issue here with no street view.  Sorry folks.

Harold Gene, I am guilty.  I did do that.  She called and straightened me out.  LOL

Don, I knew you'd check in!  The Google Man was rejected!  That's too bad.  Guess I may have to make a shopping trip to Conway and drop in on Hendrix.

I know the Hendrix Village....and LOOOOVE it. Actually, I drive through there often to see what lovely new house has been put up. And...little known fact, Kris Allen and his sweet wife live in there. ;) If Lagacy Park at Harding looks half as great as Hendrix, I'm pumped! ;)

Bethany, you and others have now really made me want to visit the Hendrix Village.  Who can actually live in the village....elderly, students, anyone???

It's my understanding  anyone who can afford to may live there.   That lets me out.

Barbara, you should!!! The Hendrix Villiage is just plain cute. If you plan it around a meal you can eat at Zaza's or Panera Bread....both are in the Village and very yummy! Also, I think the Harding Lagacy Park apartments are just for senior, girl students as of now.....maybe married couples, too (?)

Anita, is it that expensive?

Bethany, thanks for that additional information.  I also heard that Harding may be tearing down the old apartments that are nearby.

Harding is currently building phase 1 of 2 phases of these row houses which will initially house upper classmen woman as well as a few married couples this fall.  Eventually, all of the nearby old 2-story apartments (known as the West Apartments) as well as the nearby red-brick one-story duplexes will be torn down to make room for many more.  It will greatly improve the look for that side of campus.
