What is the Most Important Thing A Broker Can Offer New Agents?

What is the most important thing a broker can offer new agents?

There are many things you could say to answer this question but I think the most important thing is availability.  New agents need good training, no doubt but they also need support.  To go outside the office and begin prospecting takes courage, knowledge, and support from the broker and other office personnel. A new agent needs to know they are being backed up.  They need to feel they are part of an organization.  They need to know they can get answers they may not always have.  They need a place to run to when the going gets tough.

You are not alone

                                                          (You are not alone)

I like to think of our office as a sanctuary, a place where agents can come home when they need to get refreshed and find encouragement.  When an agent has exhauted their words, their energy, their motivation, they can come home to real support.

Come home    (Come on home)

As a broker, it is hard to always be available to the agents.  I  try.  I answer my phone when it is least convenient because I know my agents may be in a situation with clients and just a quick answer can make or break the deal.  I like for my agents to feel comfortable that they are not alone and having to answer questions they may not always have answers for.  Being a broker is a great responsibility and also has great rewards, kind of like being a parent.

Yes Dorte, you know it! :)

Hi Michael,  What a nice shout out to Peter Rogers!  Have a great week!

Hi Kathy,  I do try.  It's only the right thing to do.

They need another broker if they are not getting any help or training.

Hi Kimo,  Absolutely!

Hi Ric,  Glad your office is doing all that.

Hi John,  The electronic world does make it easier.  No excuses.

Hi Karen Anne,  That is what I hear too.  It's hard to get started if your broker is against you.

Hi Bob,  I've heard that many times.  Promises, promises but no real training and support.

Thanks Bryan,  That is so true and agents can get very discouraged this way.  Brokers need to take the extra tiem it takes for their agents.

True Travis,  Confidence and Sales!  Love it!

Hi Karen Anne,  You are one of those super competent agents that don't need lots of training or supervision but ones like you are few and far between.  Come on down to the Texas Hill Country and work with me.  I need your kind!       Have a great week Karen Anne! :)

Hi Bob,  Keeping morale high can be difficult at times but availability does help.

Thank you everyone who commented.  I appreciate your comments very much.  It took me some time to get back with all of you as I have been so busy this week.  Commenting on Active Rain with fellow Realtors is important to me and I cherish your friendships.  Thank you again!

Making deals "Happen"

Hi Nicki,

We have an office of 55 agents and we have a solid principal broker. If one of our new agents needs help on a contract or anything he/she can flag down one of perhaps a dozen seasoned agents who may be in the office between 8:00 am and 8:00pm. I cannot picture an occasion where one of us would not jump in and help if the PB was not available. That availability and support should come from not only the PB but the whole office. It might sound corny but we embrace the chance to help a newbie or anyone who has a new situation pop up. That’s what I love about have a good size office with diverse talents. Between us all almost everything has happened at least once. Now wait, something new will happen tomorrow. Good post, we all need the support.

A Realtor® Who Answers His Phone!

I had to go before the state Real Estate Board, to speak in somebody else's defense, and that was scary enough!  We were there for something completely out of our control, but that agent is my best advocator for calling me if they don't know or understand something.  She tells ALL agents not to hesitate in calling me, and I make myself accessible to all of them from 7:30am-10:00pm, with some rare exceptions!

Hi Woody,  That would be scary.  Glad that agent understands the importance of keeping you informed.  I love agents like that and dont want the other kind :)

Time and attention.  I do not see how some of these brokers are "managing" large firms of 50 or so agents.

Ricki,

Congrats on the featured blog. New agents and not new agents need support from the Broker who has Real Estate expereince and know how. Sometimes just a few encouraging words is all someone needs. Sounds like you a good boss and I have more than enough business expereience way beyond my real estate experience to know.
