The 3 Little Pigs - A Not By A Long Shot Believable Real Estate Story

A long long time ago there was a rookie real estate agent trying to do her best to help her client buy a new home in an upscale area of the country club.  She had known this client for awhile and they had gotten to be good friends.  So much so that the day she picked him up to look at homes he was in a really bad (nasty) mood.  Supposedly he thought it was ok to act in such an unpleasant manner but boy was he about to get the tables turned on him. His lovely agent had chosen 5 homes to show him that lovely Sunday morning. She had called in advance to make the appointments and, made sure nobody would be at home and there were no pets to be concerned about as her client wasn't wild about animals in homes.

In the car the quite unpleasant client continued to be snarly and suggested he wouldn't ever find what he was looking for in a home. His lovely agent just smiled and thought oh yes we will, you'll see soon enough. At the same time the agents was thinking, oh man, this is going to be along painful day of viewing homes with this grump! She had never seen this side of the guy and it was kind of surprising her. Maybe he had been out the previous night and partied too much?  Whatever - she was sure he would buy a home that very day.

They arrived at the first home which was in a secluded and very woody area of the country club.  They drove up the long driveway and got a good look at the home - very nice curb appeal.  She rang the doorbell just to be sure nobody was still home. Low and behold a lady answered the door and was surprised to see them. Her agent had forgotten to call her regarding the appointment but she was kind enough to allow them to view the home with no notice.

The entry way and living area had a modern black and white theme, which the client was fond of so it was looking promising to both of them.  The lady mentioned they could take their time and look around and that her and her daughter would be in the kitchen. They wondered through the den and bedroom areas first and his manner hadn't lightened much, so his comments were on the negative side which was odd because so far the home had everything he had asked for. But things were about to change....

They turned the corner into the kitchen and saw, sitting at the kitchen island, the teenage daughter eating her oatmeal rather hastily so it was kind of dripping down her face. They tried their best not to pay attention to the slop running down her pretty face so they chatted on about the lovely kitchen features instead. But when they got to the other side of the island, low and behold there was a black and white spotted 400 pound potbelly pig which looked similar to this cute little guy.

Well you can imagine the look on both of their faces as they tired to play it 'cool' as if there was nothing out of the ordinary going on! The lovely agent inquired about the 'pet pig' and asked how old he/she was and what it was like having a pet pig. The young girl was more than happy to talk about her pet pig and then called her pet by her name - Anna Banana.  By that point both the agent and the client had to 'walk stage left fast' to the back porch and yard before they cracked up laughing. Just by coincidence Anna Banana was the agents nickname! It was very hard for both of them to keep a respectful demeanor so they figured outside of the home would be a good place to compose themselves. They didn't want to be rude to this nice family.

Not so fast! Outside on the back porch they found 2 more potbelly pigs. This was about to set them into a fit of laughter but just in the nick of time they noticed the mother walking towards them. Their eyes met and they knew it was going to be challenge to continue carrying on as if all was perfectly normal.

The lady told them the story of how they ended up with 3 Little Huge Pigs and what lovely house pets they all were. Well you can imagine the shock of the client to have huge potbelly pigs living in the house when he couldn't stand even a simple cat or dog. And they agents was totally flabbergasted that the listing agent failed to mention there were 3 HUGE pigs in the house either on the phone or in the MLS agents remarks. Needless to say this wasn't the home for the client! The agent quickly mentioned they had more homes to look at and thanked the lady for being so kind to allow them to view their lovely home - and meet their beloved pets.

Again it was difficult to contain their laughter but they managed to do so until they got into the agents car.  And by a stroke of luck she pulled the wrong button and opened the car hood! They were forced to quiet down quickly, open the car door to get the car hood closed so they could get out of there! As soon as they were down the road a bit they broke out in laughter and couldn't stop laughing for about 15 minutes. To say his nasty mood had lifted would be an understatement!  They went on to have a totally delightful day looking at more homes and writing and offer on his favorite home. And this my dear readers is a true story!

What are the odds that this little girl would pick your nickname as a name for the pig.  That's crazy.

The best stories are the hardest to make up, plus you have pictures of pigs. How could this go wrong?

If you weren't so trustworthy, I'd doubt this. Anna Banana? And that didn't stop you from using the term? Oink, oink

Now that is a funny story Anna.   I don't think I would have been able to keep a straight face if I was your client when we found out the pigs name.   It would have made for an interesting ride to the next home that's for sure.

Hi Anna,

This is some story, not sure if I would cry or laugh, if I found myself suddenly surrounded by three huge pigs. Our daily events can be really unpredictable. Have you seen any more pigs at houses since?

JL....this was as real as it gets and as crazy as it sounds.

Karen - Oink Oink. At that time Anna Banana was still just a nickname and I didn't use in business yet...that was a few years away at that point.  I have since learned that potbelly pigs were a fad back in the early 90's or so. That was my one and only experience with pigs!

Jim it was gut splitting laughter most of the day from that point on.....how could it not be.  Just thinking about it and sharing it again makes me laugh all over again!

Wandanna - well it wasn't like we were 'surrounded' by 3 huge pigs. They were quite focused on what they were doing -eating - and didn't really pay attention to us.  And no...that was the one and only time in 24 years. I would be shocked if it happened again.....what are the odds of it happening even once.

I don't know how you held your laughter in until you were out of the house!!!  I don't think I would have been able to.  Thanks for sharing!  (And like Charles above, I'm very glad to hear that you had your nickname before meeting your namesake...)

Charles - ask anybody called Anna and they'll tell you they've been called Anna Banana since they were a kid.

Lisa....it wasn't so easy because it was so unbeliveable!

Erica - indeed he did!

Kathy - me too!  My question is where does a home seller 'board' three huge pigs while their home is on the market.  Crazy.

Very, very funny story, Anna... and, you really painted a perfect picture leading up to the climax of finding out that a pig shared your nickname... awesome!

Ed - lol it was in the pigs that day for sure. Go figure....it still seems weird!

Peggy....being there was a hoot!  We were so well-behaved...almost!  Or at least we thought we were.  Now after a gazillion years in the business I would call that agent back and ask...what they heck were you thinking not mentioning 3 huge pigs in the house?   Crazy!
