GET GOOD AT SENDING AND RECEIVING TEXTS

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with people first...then business Ran Right Realty 636943 licensed to thrill

There is absolutely no excuse now a days for NOT sending and receiving instant communications. Remember the old days when the check was in the mail? When did you mail it? From where? What address? Did you put a return address on it? Check or money order?

SNAIL MAIL HAD ITS RULE

Snail mail captured us to this mentality and we went into the wait and see mode. Look how unproductive that is today to waste time and if there is high stakes involved, it is considered a non performing action where late charges and warnings are given to deter this activity

DO YOU TEXT?

Today, when you want to know something, there is no quicker way than texting about it. It is quicker than a phone call, an email, fax or even a visit. You text and someone texts back. Person to person express communications is what texting provides. I now ask...do you text?

THE LAST THING SHOULD GETTING A HOLD OF SOMEONE

It is interesting to note that when the subject matter is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, the people using the system relax or discount the communications while in my opinion they shouldn't. It should be the other way around. Same with luxury items too

THE ONE TIME I DONT...IT DOES

My phone goes off all day long with texts and emails. The phone goes where I go. The only problem I have is when I don't take the phone with me just for a moment and that is when my system breaks down. It is that human error involved not the communications. I was missing

MY BUSINESS STRATEGY FOR 2014

What then? The phone has to go where I go and either vibrate or make a noise and I will respond. Socially I would not lend myself to being available to something like this similar to what the teens do chattering away day and night... NO. But professionally I see the advantages

CAPTAIN ON DECK...man your stations

If I am moving something in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, if I am advertising at different points of sale and spent good money to get a response and if I need to monitor a situation and its well being then I am available during business hour times without question.

I TRIED REACHING YOU?

If there is a problem, the problem lies elsewhere and I never lose a conversation where someone has said they couldn't get a hold of me because I was unreachable. I chose this as my branding for now. But one day it will be come standard. Until then, I am gaining recognition and results

YOU CAN'T BE AVAILABLE ALL THE TIME

For those that are tempted to argue, it is not me making the rules but this technology instead. It is compelling professionals to up their presence, customer servicing and communications. You don't have to rise to the occasion but know this...

YOU MAKE ME LOOK GOOD

The ones that do want to do business this way will make you look like you don't

Richie, I agree with most of what you said.  Although, I do shut my electronics down after 8pm.  Additionally, I don't answer the phone when I am with someone.  My voice message indicates I'm with someone or in a closing and I invite them to leave a message and I'll return their call by a specific time.  I do invite them to text and I will respond as I can, if that is the case.  Like Jeff, I also discuss communications with by customers and let them know that if I am with someone, I do not answer the phone.  I normally can show them missed calls while I was spending time with them.  That hits home and shows them that live communications take priority.  Good blog.  Most don't answer or return calls, emails or texts in my market.

Hi Richie,

Good point about being available however I set one rule. Unless I have an active contract in the works, I do not take business calls after 8 pm. Again, if I am in the middle of a deal, I answer my phone. I feel it's important to have time with my family. Thanks for the post! Good luck in 2014

Richie, it would be almost impossible in this time to be an active agent and not text. E-mail is important and carries the load, but texting let's them the know the "package" is coming! It's fastest and usually the most concise.

I agree with most of the above and am almost always available between 7 am and 9 pm 7 days a week.  I disagree that this will ever be the norm.  Human nature is what human nature is and there will always be a sizable segment that does not work as hard at the rest and does not respond like the rest, my opinion.  We who do will always have an advantage.

Richie,

You know what's funny? I ask every client re: taking a loan app. Do you want to do this by phone, come into the office or go online? Almost everyone chooses online. I prefer face to face!

Hope you are well!

I believe that texting has its place and find it aggravating sometimes when someone tells me they don't text.  It is a valuable communication vehicle we have at our disposal, let's take advantage of it.  Saying you don't text is becoming akin to saying you only have a land line.

Hello Rebecca...I remember my intro to this and I resisted. People hounded me until I came around. Now, it is second nature. People can choose however texting is here to stay...thank you for your comment Rebecca...

Text messaging can be an extremely valuable communications tool, especially when you're in a remote area with minimal cellphone reception. Text messages can often get through when a phone call cannot!

You have to communicate with your clients in the manner that they want, or they won't communicate with you.  Phone, email, text, or even directly through social media.  I had a Seller recently who only wanted to communicate, and was most easily contacted, through Facebook Messenger.  So, that's what I did.

It's all about the client....
