The Importance of Instagram!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with RealSupport Inc.

Social networking can be tough to keep up with, and our Real Estate Marketing team is aware that the hyper-rapid evolution of social media and online marketing means that there are always new websites and innovative ways of social sharing being developed. The latest social networking giant to report a sharp increase in growth and a skyrocketing number of active users is Instagram. This social media app is owned by Facebook and has recently announced that it has over 300 million active users – Quickly surging past Twitter’s 284 million active users (as reported as of the third quarter). Not only has their number of active users increased by approximately 50% in just nine short months, but its users are also incredibly involved. According to a report by research firm L2, Instagram users interact with posts of people they follow at a rate that is 18 times the rate of Facebook users.

As you can see, Instagram is quickly becoming the new social media app to know. If you’re not already familiar, we suggest learning a bit about it and discovering how you can incorporate it into your online marketing plans. Our Real Estate Marketing team has broken down the who, what, where, why and how of Instagram, so you can easily see how beneficial this network of hundreds of millions truly can be!

-What is Instagram?

Instagram is a photo and video sharing app that allows users to follow people and be followed. Sharing is done strictly through pictures and videos (up to 15 seconds in length), and your followers can like or comment on any of the images that you share. Snap a photo on your phone, add one of several filters available on the app, add a caption and some relevant hashtags and share with all of your followers!

-Who is behind this new sensation?
Launched in October 2010, Instagram was originally created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. It was acquired by Facebook in April of 2012.

-Who are the users that make up Instagram?

Of the 300 million active users, 18% are in the aged 30 – 49 demographic and 37% of its users are in the 18 – 29 year old demographic (according to Jenn’s Trends in Social Media Management). If you’re seeking first-time home buyers, millennials and/or young professionals, Instagram is an important way to reach them. 57% of these users check their accounts on a daily basis and 17% of adults using Instagram live in urban areas – All important information to take heed of when deciding how to best implement this into your marketing plan.

As you can see, Instagram has become a hugely popular social network that expects to only continue its explosive growth over the years to come. Familiarizing yourself now and becoming adept at sharing photos, following others and inviting them to follow you will be incredibly beneficial. As always, our Real Estate Marketing team is here to assist with any website or social networking maintenance or help that you may need. Good post, for those of you in less urban areas I would review your target buyers. Just because it is assumed that the less urban areas are less likely to use Instagram, does not mean you should not use it. For instance in my home area of Massachusetts no town is larger 40,000 people, but we have several colleges and universities. For those students who are thinking of grad school or local employment Instagram is a great choice to market your real estate brand. Always look at what you want to accomplish when you are seeking out social media outlets.
